Because it will affect us, however brave a face some of us try to put on the whole affair. It's not only the effect on team morale, and that Redknapp is not intimately involved in training, but the effect of transfers in this window. It cannot be a coincidence that we are not being linked with any players at the moment. And can we really expect any half-decent player to want to come to us at this point in time? Levy must have known about these particular skeletons in Harry's locker. Yes, he's rightly reaped the praise for finding our gem of a manager, who has been able to lift us to the lofty heights of 3rd in the EPL; but now comes the down side. If our form plummets and we fall outside the top 5 to the ridicule of the waiting wums, will Levy rightly deserve the blame? So, too, if we lose Modric or - God forbid! - Bale? Even if Harry is found innocent, or is found guilty but escapes prison, I rather fear that the effects will be long-lived.
You're overthinking and getting too worked up about it. Light up a fat one and just, like, let the universe flow all around you, maaan
His absence in November due to heart surgery didn't effect you and neither did the long trips to Europe...so I think you will be fine. To suggest that you could drop out of the top 5 is a bit extreme! Especially by your standards HIAG. And if it were to happen, I think we would have to get out of the bottom 15 before we start wumming your league position (although we are 1 point off)
He could still pick the team from Ford Open Prison, he just couldn't get paid for it. Levy would have to give him a bung, opps I mean bonus when he came out to cover his wages. He could even watch the matches on Sopcast and ring Joe or Kevin re substitutions. He would also get a few weekends off towards the end of his stretch and could attend the Saturday and Sunday matches.
Too many ifs, HIAG mate. Let's not get the cart too far in front of the horse. IMO, Harry won't go to jail, even if found guilty. Also, even if he is found guilty, he'll continue to deny that he knowingly did anything wrong.
The thing is, if it does transpire he was stitched up by his agent, that gives us yet another reason to be thankful Comolli is a couple of hundred miles away...
How badly were we effected by the venables sugar row??? We got ossie as a manager followed by shreeves followed by francis followed by gross followed by bloke in a coat followed by hoddle followed by pleat followed by santini. We failed to come above 8th and the only high o point was when we won one league cup .... In the most boring final EVER... Ben thatcher, gary doherty, jason dozzel, toda etc etc were playing for us... Apart from those 12 yrs of dross it didnt effect us at all
I think you Tottenham fans should chill - as I've said all week, this case is the best news Tottenham have had in years. The media circus will ensure that England don't go near him and you would have to assume that Levy and 'Arry have talked about 'Arrys position, his apparent guilt and any embarrasing stories that might come from the case, and the fact Levy has said nothing suggests that he'll stick by him if found guilty. He clearly gets players playing for him so I don't see a drop in performance, Wigan at home next week is unlikely to cause too many problems and all the pressure is on Arsenal and Chelsea playing catch up.
As others have mentioned it is a good thing re transfers. All the press coverage is about Harry and not the club. Harry would have already identified who he wants to Levy, so Harry not being there will take the heat off any negotiations and Levy can get on with doing what he does best- squeezing the best price he can out of whoever he is talking to.
Gonna be a strange Transfer deadline day not seeing 'Arry on SSN arriving at Spurs Lodge and then leaving later on and both times denying any knowledge of any deals going on...
You never know with these things how it will effect the players, they could improve for all we know at this stage, per ardua ad astra, and all that.
I can't have any of this HIAG especially from the board's most optimistic man. Levy is one of the shrewdest men in the game. He would have had intimate knowledge of the charges facing HR for some time now. These would have been disclosed to Harry's legal team and passed onto the club's. Levy fiercly protects the Spur's reputation and that of ENIC as well as the clubs finances. If, in his opinion, (which I value highly as I'm sure do you,) there was any risk of Harry being found guilty, and by association damaging the club, he would at the very least have suspended him and got in a caretaker until this thing was over to distance the club from it. He hasn't which has to be a positive thing. As for the players, it will only affect the brighter ones, who will think "I'd better phone my accountant to make sure he has his **** together." Preparation should be fine. After all, we have more coaches than National Express. Stop worrying.
The deadline will be midnight, court finishes in the afternoon, I would still think he'll end the day at Spurs, just as he will be for our next 2 evening games.
Why is there an assumption the case will affect 'Arry's England chances? Terry Venables was involved in far more dodgy dealings, yet is lauded for leading England to a semi-final in a tournament that was there for the taking.
The FA were dragged through a number of embarrassing situations as a result of Venables appointment but remember he succeeded Taylor just after we failed to qualify for the 94 World Cup, there were no other viable alternatives and English football was desperate. I wouldn't say they regretted the TV appointment but it put the FA under greater scrutiny than they wanted and I think they decided there and then they wouldn't put themselves in that sort of position again, despite him being the obvious candidate (though I think O'Neill is the right man). The intriguing response for me is Levy's, we haven't had one yet, maybe he'll give an interview or write something in the programme notes tonight but how he reacts to all this is crucial for me - although he clearly intends standing by 'Arry. As I've said, all good news for Tottenham I think...
If Harry is found guilty of tax fraud, there is absolutely no way the FA will appoint him as England manager.
