Each and every time I click on one of their articles via my iPad on newsnow, within seconds of starting to read the article one of those ****ing highly annoying advert pop ups appear and block half the screen off, and will seemingly not disappear no matter how many times I click on 'hide'. Ironically they have exactly the opposite effect to the one that they obviously desire as I close the full page down.

    ****s!

A month or so ago I tweeted about how annoying it was(it was somehow managing to avoid my Adblocker at the time) and I got a tweet back saying they were aware of how annoying it was and were desperately trying to get it sorted.

Northcliffe Media have about 100 titles and they all have to use the same annoying template.

You get more aggressive advertising and hidden malware/viruses off the HDM site than most porn sites.

    And I should know.

On the flipside, how else is such a crappy publication going to pay for itself ? Not through people buying the paper that's for sure

The issue isn't the fact that they have advertising on there, it's just the ridiculous amount of pop-up's and the fact that all the video clips auto-start.

Could be worse, it could be like some Murdoch paper sites where you get to read 3 lines of a story & then have to subscribe to read the rest

Try Puffin Browser. Still get some pop ups at the bottom of the screen but it cuts out the annoying ones you mention and others. Also lets you play YouTube videos which won't play in Safari and flash streams.

Photon browser is also useful for playing Flash content which Safari blocks.

Simple solution via ipad tips. When you have clicked into the article, look for the title bar at the top which says 'hull daily mail.co' and if there are 4 parallel bars at the left end of the bar, click these and all ads disappear leaving only the article. Instant relief!

HDM does my head in and I have stopped visiting because of all the pop ups, particularly annoying is that loads of them are (or were when i last visited yonks ago) trying to entice you into gambling. I have zero interest in gambling and find them mega annoying grrrrrr:headbang:

I check the HDM Daily and I am not getting any advertisements whatsoever. I am using a Desktop PC mind and not one of those contraptions that you can play Mutant Ninja Turnips on. No adverts at all.

If you're on an iPad try the weblock free app. It works well on all sites.

I do not buy the paper anymore and use the website a tenth of the time that I used to do because of these annoying ads.
I have a grouse with the morning bulletins on Radio Humberside too. They broadcast last week that Bell had scored a century in the One Day International v Australia, 'and if you want to know the latest score log onto the bbc website' Why not just read the score out?
Then they carry an interview with a Rovers player who hopes to have a good season?????
Or a load of tosh about non league Grimsby Town.

I don't know what your PayTV system is back in beautiful Down-Town Kingston-Upon-Hull but we have Foxtel associated with Sky.
When I first went into this (some years ago) I loved it because there were no ads - I assumed the remuneration received covered all costs. However, times change, and now we are drenched with adverts yet the price of PayTV went UP!
I also find that I cannot make a contract with my own selection of channel's (i.e. 'Package Deals') as if I want the sporting channel's (obviously I do so I can watch my beloved Hull City) I have to sign up for half a dozen children's channels because it is part of the 'package'! Bloody ridiculous.
