http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21998297 Just read the above on the bbc about Samba and his wages. Left me pretty peed off. Getting on his back unnecessarily isn't going to help anyone, and fair play for apologizing for the poor performance, but if he's going to go on twitter after a performance like last night, surely just leave it at an apology. Complaining about people moaning about his enormous salary to me just highlights why people are frustrated and does nothing to help. Just get on the pitch and prove you are worth it, then defend your salary, not after a game like last night.
The thing is Dave it's not his fault he gets paid whatever he gets paid. We are all paid the market rate regardless of our profession, now whether we deserve more or less than what we get is an entirely different matter. Samba had a bad day at work, if it had happened at the beginning of the season then maybe people would have reacted differently who knows. We all have bad days, what frustrates me more is that we have to continue to pay the fool that got us in this mess in the first place, how he was never dismissed for incompetence I'll never know but hey we are QPR and we hate the simple life!
That is true. I agree, and he should be paid the market rate, but surely a little understanding of people's frustrations would be good.
He's not the only one though Dave, take a good look through the whole of the team this season and write down on the back of a stamp those who have truly earned their corn. I will pull Granero out of the hat because he has been a huge disappointment he arrived at LR with big credentials but has been a flop and I am quite embarrassed because I was always backing him but he just failed to deliver for whatever reason, if he comes back to Spain next year I will keep tabs on the press to see his reasons for abject failure (you were right Col). There are more players to chose from Dave but Samba got noticed because of our inbred passion for failure and to criticize.
I agree, but he also got noticed because he commented and complained that people were unhappy, that is what annoys me. It is right that they should be paid the going rate, but not right when they complain that others think they are too much.
Why pro ballers are on twitter is beyond me. Especially those at struggling clubs. It should be club policy that they come off of it. It causes far too much trouble than it does good.
Agreed, what didn't get reported in the beeb article was the loads of supportive tweets Samba received for holding his hands up about his display, nor did they comment on the racist abuse he got - as you say professional footballers should leave twitter well alone
Agreed regarding twitter. All pro footballers should be banned from using it. Barton's antics on it are a classic example why it should be banned. Players should do their talking on the pitch.
Me. I commented on here at the time that Bassong was as good as Samba and got the piss taken.Samba has compounded the problem for QPR.
