http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/grieving-mother-tragic-student-david-2125535 If yer old enough to drink then you must take the consequences of getting pished! THE mum of tragic student David O’Halloran is to plead with MSPs for a change to licensing laws to protect young drinkers. Devastated Donna O’Halloran, 41, says she has suffered “hell on earth” since the 18-year-old was found dead after vanishing on a night out in January. She wants new legislation, including a limit on the number of alcoholic drinks sold to pub customers. David’s body was found on farmland miles away from his university campus after a three-month search. Police say the Stirling University student, who was wearing only a T-shirt, shirt and jeans in temperatures of –4C, was drunk and suffered hypothermia. But his mum insists his drinks were spiked and is waiting for toxicology test results to find out. Donna, of Kilmaurs, Ayrshire, will put her case at the Scottish Parliament when it resumes in September. Her demands include: Enforced limits on drinks per customer. Dedicated “cool off” areas for anyone too drunk. Hi-tech coasters and mats which can show if drinks have been spiked. Donna launched an online petition demanding change last week and has already gained 1100 signatures. She said: “This is about taking more responsibility for our young people. “Alcohol is the deadliest legal drug out there but we are not doing enough to tackle this. It destroys families, it destroys society.” David, who wanted to be a maths teacher, disappeared on January 18 after being dropped off by a taxi a mile from campus. He was last seen at 2.20am in nearby Bridge of Allan, walking in the opposite direction.
Anyway Story is: Student goes out and gets pished... He then gets taxi to a mile away from his digs! Walks about steaming and then crashes out in the snow in his tshirt n jeans! Dies. Mum says drink was spiked!! She now wants new laws with limits on how much drink you can buy in pubs, testing kits for checking for spiked drinks and alcohol free zones in pubs!
Aye... She preparing to take her suggestions to the Scottish Parliament when it re-opens in September!
The problem with people now is they can't accept that sometimes bad things happen. She can't believe that her son simply got pished and fell asleep in the snow and died from hypothermia so she has to find someone or something to blame. No one wants to accept responsibility for their own actions any more.
She has a point, tho. Clearly there was failure on a massive scale by the Government's meteorlogical department for failing to notify eveybody in the area about the snow. If only he'd known to put on a nice warm coat and scarf things would have been very different.
I was always doing things like that when I got drunk. I woke up outside Edinburgh Airport once. Fuck knows how I got there.
