I lived in the East End of London from 1974- 87 so used to go watch West Ham a lot with my mates from the pub, unless the Swans were in town of course in which case I watched them. Then the Swans got into the First Division and there I was in our usual spot with my mates, behind the goal at West Ham when just before half time Bob Latchford finds himself in front of goal with all the time in the world. Now was it the Upton Park mud stopping the ball rolling or a miss-que but Latchford took a swing at the ball and completely missed. The Goalkeeper dived and was sprawled on the floor as Latchford, laughing all over his face side footed into the opposite corner and turned away to celebrate. In the stunned silence, behind the goal I felt a gentle hand on my shoulder as a friend of mine whispered in my ear. "One word and you're a f*****g dead man" I turned and looked at my friends, they were all staring at me. I said not a word. Swans lost 2-1 if my memory serves me well. First and last time I was pleased the Swans lost. Overheard at the Vetch some years ago 2 guys in front of me. That Toshack is good in the air but his footwork's not so good. 2nd guy. A bit like Douglas Bader Young un's will need to go on line and look up Douglas Bader
One of my first Swans matches at the Liberty was probably the funniest, we were playing Blackpool back in 2005, We went 1-0 up through Trundle, They equalised, Bayo then scored for us and they equalised again. Then in the 81st minute one of the weirdest goals happened, cant fully remember. Anyone else there? or remember?
Jamie, I remember that. It was Leon rolling in a pass to Trunds, he was offside so didn't touch the ball but was gesturing it to go in with his hands, it rolled in the net at about 3mph and the Blackpool players went mad when the goal was given. Because Trunds didn't touch it he wasn't ruled offside and the goal stood.
I also remember that goal what a weird one. Alot of people wont remember this unless they were there but we played Wolves away 2 seasons ago in the snow and we lost. But the swans put together the best string of passes Ive ever seen and Gower ended up hitting a cracking shot. It would have been one of the best goals I had ever seen anyway if it had gone in but I think it hit the bar. Funny how you remember moments like that
