We are playing some of the most attractive football we have played for a very long time at the minute, we are just missing that end product. I understand it is frustrating that we had the chance to spend in January but did not, and nobody knows why so before we all get into a panic saying there is no money available and moaning about the Allams just remember how much debt they have paid off for us will you? And hopefully money will be spent in summer but for god sake for those of you who are listening and believing things that David Burns says, think about what you are doing there. As for NB, he is one of our own so he is going to get less stick than other managers would at that moment in time, but you all have to remember he has only been manager since January. If you are going to judge him how about you do it at this point next season, not when he has only brought in one player. Also, think how many players have come and gone over the last two seasons and how many young players we have, the trouble is most football fans are so impatient and forget where we have come from. In times of bad form, the fans should pull together get behind the lads and create an atmosphere to get the players going, not booing. How is booing going to help anybody, all this 'they have paid they're money the have a right to show their opinion' crap if you aren't going to get behind the team than I am sure the players, and staff would rather not have you in the ground so do us all a favour and don't 'waste your money' anymore. Every team has a bit of bad form at one point you've just got to keep going and look to change it the next game, and next season with a couple of additions hopefully we will bounce back stronger. The fans who don't get behind the team just give us who do a bad name, its embarrassing the players must hate the 'fans' when they are like this. Barmby Army.
A very good post mate. I agree there have been a lot of toy's and dummy's thrown out of a lot of prams.
Which idiots, exactly, are you referring to. Most people on here are pretty broad minded. Most people who were very critical in the heat of the moment yesterday, have come on today saying they don't want Barmby gone. Even the posters who disliked Barmby as a player seem to be keeping schtum, and are not complaining about him now. If you're expecting, however, that people are going to keep quiet and not be critical at all, then I think you need to be somewhere other than a public forum of debate. Playing some of the most attractive stuff? Against Cardiff we did - but do you think that's the rule, or the exception? Where was the attractive play yesterday? We looked very good for about two minutes, just prior to conceding. What followed was most certainly not the most attractive stuff I've seen city play. We are having moments - but not enough of them. Even then I could handle what happened, but for Barmby to lash out the way he did in the post-match interview, was the final straw. Barmby has had longer than most managers would get in his honeymoon. Our position in the league is down to clubs around us failing to make progress, most clubs on our form would be sinking down the league like a stone. I support Barmby and the team 100%, but like I said yesterday, that support cannot be unquestioning. The performace yesterday was unacceptable, just as it had been at Portsmouth, and at Leicester. Barmby isn't a puppy, he's a manager in a high-pressure job.
Most football fans are only able to take the smooth and are unable to cope with the rough periods. We had 6 or 7 years of generally successful seasons when we moved into the KC, and now we have had 3 indifferent seasons (not particularly bad seasons). Infact this season could be regarding as a pretty successful one in relation to City's history, but some fans are demanding more. Yes there are lots of things that can be done better, but we have just chucked a rookie manager into the deep end with a largely inexperienced set of players. There should be some slack given by some sections of the fans, a bit of patience wouldn't go a miss.
A football forum is a place for people to let off steam, particularly when the team are on a bad run and we've just been beaten at home by one of the worst teams in the league. It's far better that they do it here, rather than do it at games.
I understand that people want to let of steam on here, but that is if you ask me the problem is that they decide to do it at games by booing, I don't quite see how they believe booing is going to help the way the team is playing.
..the problem is, the football actually isn't that 'attractive'. It certainly wasn't yesterday. Nor, is it particularly adventurous - we get nowhere near enough bodies forward to be a threat. Our possession stats may look good, but passing the ball five yards when under no pressure on the half way line is not a particularly difficult thing to do.. I have no problem with being patient, but when we do work it into dangerous areas we don't gamble, and there's little or no desire from the majority to get into a scoring position. I'm desperate not only for Barmby to succeed, but also to do it in an exciting, and brave manner.. but despite what he says - we currently are neither.
well said...as i keep saying i wish i had a season pass for the games some other people are seeing, because mine seems to be getting me into the wrong matches not these ones with good football, or maybe its only a minority these days that find goals and players in the box etc exciting..
I personally think that there are probably a number of reasons for the situation. 1. Barmby is new to the job and will make mistakes. 2. I think it was a mistake not loaning or buying a recognized striker in January, and that is showing. 3. I think there are signs of fatigue, probably more mental than physical. Playing the number of games , with a thread bear squad does seem to be taking it toll. However if it is true and that there is no money available to buy in the close season, then that is worrying, but frankly I cannot see why the Allams would do this, as they want the club to be successful financially as well, and that can only happen if you get to the EPL. Overall disappointing end to the season, and it will take a big turn of fortune to get back on track.
i personally have no problem with barmby making mistakes, it just makes his whole insistance to change the formation even more frustrating, why is he so adamant its the correct way when he has little to fall back on? if he tries other things he may find they work better, and also if he tried other things and they failed i think people would be more understanding, but it appears at the moment his stubborn streak is trying to prove a point to swanny etc, and its to the detrament of the team imo...
I actually think the formation we play can change quite alot, to a 442 451 433, but I just don't think players like Brady and Stewart(who doesn't even seem to want to be here) know how to play they're roles in 4231 well enough as they are inexperienced. If we are going to continue with this formation Fryatt can not play up front, as he needs to play with a big man. Also the wingers need to score more goals as Stewart, Evans, Mckenna, and Brady only have 5 goals between them this season, a lack of goals from midfield is a problem I believe.
might be speaking out of turn (as I get to few home games) but isnt part of the problem that the home crowd are pretty negative - all the commentaries I listen to seem to mention the lack of atmosphere at the KC and a relative who has a season ticket says exactly the same thing. Must have an impact on the players, manager and I think The Allams too. The crowd never sound passionate about their team even when they're winning!
GNev covering the spurs swans match just commented on brendan rodgers' preferred style of play saying that he'll carry on passing and trying to play attractive football and because it's clearly worked for them then that's exactly what he should do. is he suggesting the somewhat radical idea that if something works don't change it but if something isn't working then it's time to evaluate and take measures to fix the problem? do you have NB's mobile number GNev?
It's not like the KC is a stadium that has never had atmosphere, at the moment we as fans have very little to shout and cheer about. The football is boring to put it bluntly, what's the point of passing the ball around neatly in our own half? It's like we're trying to emulate Barcelona who not only have far more gifted players but also they play the neat football in the opposition's half! I'm not calling for hoofball but there's nothing wrong with getting the ball wide, getting bodies forward and putting the other team's defence under pressure. In our promotion season we mixed it up, played some neat passing but also knew when to go long and apply pressure. I really want Barmby to succeed but his stubbornness annoys the **** out of me! Love Burnsy or hate him he asks the questions that most of the fans want to, and to speak to him as Nicky did yesterday was just ignorant, arrogant, and totally unacceptable. He was like a little boy who was too immature to admit he got it wrong. The people that boo are plain stupid and it was only a minority, but my point is that it is down to the team to entertain us, not down to us to motivate them.
"I really want Barmby to succeed but his stubbornness annoys the **** out of me! Burns has an agenda - and it's not in the interests of HCFC or the fans It's about getting sexy quotes for the BBC by asking provocative questions Pearson knew this and so does Barmby Shame some of our numb nuts fans can't see this for themselves, instead of seeing David Burns as 'representing' them to Nick Barmby
bit of a short sighted opinion really. i hardly think that asking if having garcia or oli as options might have been at least considered for experience about how to change a game instead of a bench with an average age of 13 can be classed as a 'sexy question'. it's a perfectly obvious one that he had every right to ask. It's very hard to defend that interview both in terms of content and attitude, he came across as an ignorant arrogant tool. NB is very quickly learning that the pressure of being a player is a far removed from the pressures of management, in time I'm sure he'll handle himself better.
You've realised Burns is a journalist! *slow clap* I don't see Burns as representing me, he's not a City fan (it'd be ****ing awful radio if he was), but when Barmby speaks to Burns he's also speaking to the fans, and when they're driving home after an awful performance it's quite right they feel aggrieved/concerned when the managers says he's "proud" of it.
Unfortunately Burnsy is our only way right now of asking the questions, that as fans, we would like to know the answer to, but as fans we have no right to know the inner workings of the club or how NB intends to move us forward. As much as I personally have spent following City since 1982 (season tickets, merchandise and other city related costs) that means nothing to the club and thousands of others have blindly done as i have and spent money season after season. I would like a little bit of honesty and transparency regarding our current situation, is there money available or not, what are the plans for next season, why did we fail to strengthen when we had the chance, even with a cheap loan player or 2. And finally, NB has to know after years in the game, that when a manager like he is, starts to alienate sections of supporters, that there will only be one winner in the long run and its unlikely to be him, Burnsy can be as much of an arse as he wants because he knows, that no matter what, he will be still be around asking the next manager the same questions just as he as, NBs predecessors, NB needs a plan B, we all know that but with resources available, plan B or C may be far worse than persevering with plan A, maybe we,ll find out in the next 6 games, maybe it might be next season.
