http://en.espnf1.com/f1/motorsport/story/50428.html Reading this article I was wondering; What about a female F1 pilot, has there ever been one? And if one appears on the grid, how will the drivers react. Will they be gentil on her or doesn't make it a difference. Personally, when I race a kart on the circuit and a girl passes by, it stings just a little bit more, machoman admits
april 1st was months ago. yes there were a few female F1 'drivers', 1 even scored a whole point in a wdc race. As to being passed by a girl, on a kart track without any weight handicap or evening up it's not that bad, but you gotta feel for David coulthard, when he left F1 he entered DTM, and was roundly beaten by a female competitor at almost every race.
I think Danica Patrick is probably the only one who has come close to F1 recently, she tested a Toyota a few years ago, but nothing came of it sadly. I don't think it makes any difference to the drivers, they don't treat them differently in other types of racing. I've always been surprised that we've not had any female drivers have a sustained F1 career, I would have thought at least 1 over the years would have made the cut, and I don't believe theres any fundamental sexism in any of the teams or FIA.
Quite a few really early feeder series now have a fair number of girls in them so in 10 years or so who knows. The sport doesn't need female drivers, but thats not to say it shouldn't have them. I'd be happy to see a new influence in the sport
I'll probably get crucified for being sexist, but do you think they have the strength for it? for a week every month they have a massive hormone imbalance and lose a lot of iron rich blood, making them anaemically weaker. F1 needs a lot of strength, probably more so than ever before. As to Danica Patrick, she may be the best woman racer, but 1 win and 5 podiums in 7 years tells me enough about her to see the Toyata try-out was probably more image oriented than form.
I'm sure Iron deficiency can be overcome with tablets, and women manage to compete fairly equally with men in other race series, I don't see why F1 should be any different! I'm also surprised there's no female drivers in GP2, unless I'm missing someone, I'd have thought someone would have got that far.
do they compete equally? name me one female world champion that won it competing against men. They are physiologically different, which is why in jobs that require a physical test (such as a fireman) Woman are given far lower targets (very sexist IMO, why give a woman a job that a man can do better simply because she is a woman?). The reason they are given easier test is because, as medical science has proved, they are weaker. It may be very unPC to say so, but it's true. I also think it will be far easier for a woman to get in F1 than a man, the fact that Danica Patrick was even considered for a test considering her very unimpressive CV should make that clear. It would be a massive coup for any team that could find one worthy enough
then of course you have all the redesigning that will be necessary, how are they gonna put on their make-up with those tiny mirrors?
I don't think women would have much difficulty driving an F1 car, and doing a good job of it. Gender shouldn't hold you back and I hope we get a female driver on the grid soon. Problem is, what female driver can be considered good enough for F1? Can you guys stop with the jokes?
What happened to Sarah Fisher? I remember she was on the ITV show once, around the time Coulthard made some derogatory comment about women drivers that he said was a misquote. I think F1 needs to increase the employment of women in a number of areas. At the moment they seem to be confined to publicity roles and dietary advice - oh, and running the Amber Lounge. What about pit girls? Is that inherently sexist? I notice a lot of circuits are giving them clothes to wear these days. Should F1 get rid of pit girls, or replace them with local schoolkids or something? I'm sorry, I've just had a look at the official 606 replacement and for some reason I'm rambling.
