Strikers Sam Hoskins & Johnathon Forte have joined Preston on a 1-Month loan deal, with both players eligible for the FA Cup - Hmmm, are we not going to use them? Good chance for Hoskins to get some valuable 1st team experience - looks a decent player and good for Forte to drop down and get first team action, not getting it here Thoughts?
Just as i posted after the Palace game, Forte is not good enough for Saints, or the Championship itself really. I really don't think he has a future at Saints. As for Hoskins, it will be good for him to get first team experience.
Good decision. Playing competitive first team football is better for any player. Look at Beckham, Defoe, Ferdinand, Lampard, Ashley Cole, Wilshire, etc, etc. They all benefited from a spell out on loan.
Yeah, ordinarily I'd be slightly surprised at us letting them play in the FA Cup. If we get Bradford at home in R3, you'd have expected one or both to feature for us. But I guess for them only being one month loans, to stop them from featuring would render the loans almost pointless. That's a possible two games each that you're stopping them from playing in - and in one month, that's a lot. Hope they both do well.
OS says 'Jonathan not available for FA Cup on Saturday'! If he was it would definitely have indicated probable move in January transfer window. Can still hope / Presume we will strengthen at that time anyway.
Are Preston quite short up front? They must be desperate - Forte is poor even by L1 standards and Hoskins has barely kicked a ball in anger.
I've just read the article on our OS. Sounds like it might be worth keeping an eye on Preston's JPT score tonight then. Be good for Forte to grap a goal.
Forte hardly featured in league 1, though he will always be a hero for MK Dons match. The added problem for him is the rapid progress of Southampton which makes it difficult for him to feature in any match. Adkins obviously had hopes for him, but he now doesn't even make the bench. Hoskins could benefit from some first team football, but surprised he will be eligible for the FA Cup (though perhaps it indicates that Nigel will put out the 1st team in the cup). Again his chances are limited by 5 subs rule and by our rapid progress.
Sam Hoskins was top scorer for the U18s for the last two seasons and has already scored for the U21s this year.
think they are both on loan but for different reasons - Forte is putting himself in the shop window for jan, hoskins (who i hear they rate highly at SMS) is getting games under his belt. we all know how much the don & nige want to bring the youngsters through so there is no better way to help them and assess them than this i think, especially when its short term. i see us strengthening in Jan anyway and therefore making a couple of players surplus to requirements, dickson falling in that category too - especially as he tweeted the other day "success is a journey, not a destination" which i see as either a dig at the bus terminology and/or a hint he may be getting a move.
What do we all think. Will Forte come back? I think this makes a new forward signing in January even more likely.
already had a topic on this http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/99798-Hoskins-amp-Forte-join-Preston-on-Loan
Preston North End have pulled off a double emergency loan deal by bringing in forwards Jonathan Forte and Sam Hoskins from Southampton. Old news, already 2 articles on this - http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/99798-Hoskins-amp-Forte-join-Preston-on-Loan http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/99574-Jack-Saville-joins-Barnet-on-loan EDIT: glad to see all 3 articles merged
My bad, did not see this. Neither of the first two were on the front page so I created a new one! Well merged.
Forte assisted Preston's goal on Tuesday night (1-1 draw), and played the full 90. He didn't take a penalty, but Preston did only need four penalties to win it, so it'll be interesting if he was down to take penalty no.5 or not.
