Got to be better than that luncheon meat they used to dish out when I were a lad.

I can imagine Jamie Oliver's next campaign - replacing Red Rum with fruit juice and Shergar with saccharine.

    I'll get my coat...

It's meat protein is a processed form

It just goes to show how fickle the nation is I bet over 90% couldn't and wouldn't survive in the countryside

If its in a package chances are its processed and nothing like you think it is I welcome a return to values and proper food trouble is most people wouldn't touch it without unless is was wrapped in cardboard with a photoshopped high res image on it

Ask London's starving community tonight would they like a ready meal with meat in it ? Millions of pounds of stock straight to landfill

Schools and hospitals run as businesses to make a profit

Only in ****ing England the laughing stock of the world

    You are completely right DT.

No reported cases of illness, a criminal waste of food and millions of people's faux outrage at false advertising when in reality they can't deal with eating a meat that's in the diet of half the world.

It's a bit embarrassing to be honest.

As i said to someone else, if youre buying the cheapo meals then horse meat is the least of your problems, sawdust, foreskin, lips, gonads are all going to be in 99p sausages and burgers.

I don't think most people are bothered by the fact that they may have eaten horse meat........surely the issue is that you're entitled to expect that the food you eat is what it's labelled as?

The national outcry over false advertising just seems hugely disproportionate.

Would it happen if cherry tomatoes were used instead of the advertised plum tomatoes?

I guess that depends on your personal beliefs. I have no problem eating horse, but I know people who would rather starve. I enjoy rabbit, but my kids look at me as if I'm some sort of monster on the odd occasion that I have it.

I would really struggle to knowingly eat cat though.

Scientists and food nutrition experts say that horse is better for you than beef. It's a mental thing though and as Col says, "you're entitled to expect that the food you eat is what it's labelled as".

    Couldn't disagree more strongly Matt.
Surely everyone should be entitled to be confident that they are eating what it says on the tin? We're talking about a totally different meat being advertised as beef.
I hope the big retailers get hammered for this.
What would be good is if the butchers could somehow get there prices down, so that people could buy locally sourced, good quality meat like they used to be able to.

I agree it's not right but it's crazy the furore that's been whipped up.

The PM looked awkward when he was vowing to get to the root cause of this heinous act of false advertising.

It's got more sensationalised coverage than any genuine food related health scares have.

Even the old razors in baby food stories from way back didn't get dragged on for weeks with the Premier getting involved.

It's not the health scare that's the issue matt. I believe that this mis-labelling thing will continue to grow as we're seeing from the latest revelations.
We'll just have to agree to differ mate..
