Sorry, Ron -you've been demoted. Nass is the champ!...............

    Who am I?

From one county t' next when I won my race,
Double up in Autumn, so pick one of these,
My first's old yet the best- don't spill on your face,
My second's an issue or gathered from trees.

I can't be demoted Tam. Where can one go from the bottom? It was hard enough with clues. What hope have I got without a clue.

My second's an issue or gathered from trees. The only things I can think of gathered from trees are leaves, acorns, fruit, berries (can't see a connection with issue). Paper is made from trees ( I suppose a paper could be an issue). Once again Tam, I have no idea.

Come on Nass, you can do it.

If I remember my trivia rightly, its the Cesarewitch that is run over the county line, and its the Autumn Double race (Cambridgeshire being the other)

    Old - Vintage
I guess you can get crop from trees

Vintage Crop - Cambridgeshire winner 1992

<applause>Well done, Nass- you've retained your crown!
Answer: Cesarewitch runners race in Cambridgeshire and Suffolk.
Double -up in Autumn was a clue to the race ie. Either Ces. or Cambridgeshire- obviously the former.
"old" and "best" are synonyms of "vintage"
"Issue" are offspring/crop and a crop of fruit is gathered from trees.
Therefore answer is Cesarewitch winner, Vintage Crop.

PS. Nass, Ron are they worth submitting or not wanted by most members? an honest opinion, please!

I like them. It makes a change. And it will be an achievement if I can get one. Maybe call it something else to get others interested (eg Who Am I?). If they aren't interested they can just ignore it. I'm trying to get categories introduced so we can have Quizzes and Competitions within our own Horse Racing category, but not having much luck at present. Meanwhile, as far as I'm concerned, keep them coming. They tax the brain and, as I say, it makes a change to have something different.

Yes, something easy like my first sounds like the end of a charge and my second has just one string. That's about my level. <laugh>

FulkesF, were you out Lambourn way or did you know Tony Driscoll from racing?. I met him through the late P Osgood who lived at OldWindsor.

Oh dear, no wonder; I've done something wrong. Not only am I no good at working them out, I can't even set one properly. Obviously, the way I had phrased it, implied the last part of the name was "bow". I presume I should have said something like "My second sounds like it has a string attached and looks like the parasitic larva of a botfly". **** me I think I would have wet myself if I'd thought of that to begin with.
