This past jockey’s name sounds like he worked with iron at night, and his brother did the same but used his spade first. This jockey won hurdle races at Cheltenham and Hurst Park before winning the Epsom Derby in the following June. This horse won top long distance races and the Champion Hurdle as a four year old. This flat race trainer had the distinction of winning three Grand Nationals in the same season as a teenage jockey. This jockey also won three Grand Nationals in the same season but was short headed in the fourth.
A couple of guesses The horse is either Galileo Gold or Galileo Chrome. Can't think of any other any other element in the last 50 years, other than Silver Patriarch. Can't fit in the Hay bit. The jockey is Brian Fletcher who definitely won the '74 Grand and Scottish Nationals and may have won either of the Welsh or Midland Nationals that year. But both guesses.
