WATFORD FC v BARNSLEY FC Welcome to the match thread as Watford host Barnsley at the Vic. 8th v 20th in the league respectively. Zola's Watford look to contine their run of 6 (yes, you read that right!) unbeaten games into December. Hill's Barnsley last won on the 20th October against Charlton and must be in need of 3 points. Results for both teams in November; Barnsley 1-1 Burnley Barnsley 1-2 Cardiff Bolton 1-1 Barnsley Barnsley 0-1 Huddersfield Derby 2-0 Barnsley Hull 1-0 Barnsley 2 points from last possible 18 Sheffield Wed 1-4 Watford Blackpool 2-2 Watford Watford 2-1 Wolves Leeds Utd 1-6 Watford Watford 0-0 Millwall Watford 2-1 Leicester 14 points from last possible 18 A link to another preview, http://www.watford.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=301279 !! Barnsley manager Keith Hill said that his side failed to deliver after their point against Burnley but praised their excellent performance. Zola said that, "They created some problems for us. To come up with a result like that the performance has to be good," after smashing Sheffiled Wednesday. This looks like a big mismatch on paper, and it will only stay that way on paper. These are the games we need to put to bed with a good start and be winning at half time. I feel that if we want to eventually reach the play-offs then we can't rely on away form alone. It is time to really start playing well at home. However, the atmosphere isn't great and the 3 sided Vic doesn't really help either. I'm going for a 1-0 win but not the best performance. !! ALL COMMENTS AND (WITHIN REASON) VIEWS ARE APPRECIATED AND WELCOME !! ENJOY THE GAME !! HECHA LE GANAS HORNETS !!
great thread Mex, thank you! I think this is the game where we finally turn round the home form, and start winning with style. Therefore, i'm going for 3-1...because we don't play quite as well at home as we do away .
Nice one Mex. I am going to for 8-2 to us. Nah, not really. But having nailed the Wednesday result I don't want to give my WPL hand away yet.
Let's hope the goal-feat continues. Gotta be 3-1. (BTW does anyone know if our 12 goals in the last 3 away games is anywhere near a record? Can't really imagine/remember even a team like Man U averaging 4 goals a game away from home in a 3 match run).
Nice one Mex - 5*'s from me. I'm going back to my old fav of a 3-1 win to Watford...wrap up well those who are going, it's going to be a cold one!
Funny how a normal Watford team do well at home and terribly on their travels and this year it is generally the other way around. We have had our really bad home game (Peterborough; and we got three points from that, if a little fortuitously at the end) so with our improving form and Barnsley's being indifferent everything points to a home win, so to upset the cart I'll say 1-1. Watford, expect the unexpected.
Some team news about who will not be making the news in the team. http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sp...would_be_a__big_mistake__to_get_carried_away/
From the BBC website... Watford • Watford have won four and drawn two of their last six games and are second in the Championship's "form" table. • Malky Mackay's Hornets are nine points up on last season, but have scored 13 fewer goals at home than they have on their league travels. • Troy Deeney, who came on for the final quarter-hour of Tuesday's 4-1 win at Sheffield Wednesday, could make his 100th Watford appearance. BBC, you really are on top form!
Should GFZ be thinking about a slight change of style tomorrow? We have done well away from home with the quick break on the counter attack where the home team has tried to force the pace, but that has not worked so well when the opposition come to defend with more depth. Does 3-5-2 work as well for us at home as it should?
Teams seem to come to the Vic looking to defend, so we need more pace and strength in attack to break them down--we cannot rely on the counterattack if teams do not actually attack. So I think Vidra and Deeney will start up front, even though Forestieri was man of the match at Sheffield. If we start at high tempo and score first, then Barnsley will be obliged to attack, and we can play on the counter, which we do well. Forestieri can come on in the second half. I hope we do not do anything silly such as getting someone sent off or giving away a soft penalty. We were lucky in that respect against Sheffield, and suffered against Middlesboro.
I am coming over for the game today, really looking forward to it, picking my son up on the way across I am going for a big 4-0 win for the Golden Boys! so it will probably be 0-0 then U' Orns
Today's team: Almunia (c); Ekstrand, Hall, Hoban; Cassetti, Yeates, Chalobah, Hogg, Pudil; Deeney, Forestieri Subs: Bonham (GK), Dickinson, Murray, Vydra, Geijo, Mujangi Bia, Battocchio Looks like we can expect an attacking game from The 'Orns
