Bristol City hope to have key player available for Derby County clash
The Rams take on the Robins at Pride Park Stadium this weekend

Bristol City boss Lee Johnson is hopeful of having key defender Adam Webster available to face Derby County this weekend.

The 23-year-old centre-back picked up an Achilles injury during the Robins’ 1-0 win over Birmingham City earlier this month, and sat out of their 2-2 draw with Norwich City last week.

Derby are due to face City at Pride Park Stadium this Saturday, with kick-off scheduled for 3pm.

Webster has been a key figure for City this season, making 22 appearances in all competitions and has helped contribute to keeping seven clean sheets.

Johnson has said that he expects Webster to be fit and available to face the Rams at Pride Park on Saturday.

“He has an injury to his Achilles and his tendon in his Achilles. He’s had an injection, he should be okay for next week against Derby,” Johnson told Bristol Live .

“It was an important time to give him that injection, mainly because we’re moving into the Christmas period.

“It’s important we have the back-up, and whilst we have strong back-up with Nathan Baker and Bailey Wright now fit, it was the right time to do it for him.

“We could’ve nursed him through it, to he honest, but we just felt that given the fact that there’s four games in 12 days coming up, that that was the time to do it.

“He was training only on the Friday, so the last few weeks he was getting through it by just training on the Friday. To do that consistently, the fitness levels just gradually drop and drop and I was noticing against Birmingham, the last 10/15 minutes he was just hanging in.”

    Lampard on On Bristol City
FL: “They are playing well. I watched them against Norwich and they went toe-to-toe with one of the best teams in the league.

“They are aggressive, competitive and have quality in their team. They’ve got a good manager, so I expect a big challenge.

“It’s a big game for us.”
