No disrespect meant to Matt Mills (or Sean St Ledger for that matter) but a fully fit Tunch is ligh years ahead in technical ability - Miill's distribution from the back, in particular, is distinctly average - but he has other qualities. I would love to see (qulaify again by saying 'fully fit') Tunch alongside Bamba - as a combination they would have the lot ..
There is talk in the papers today that Crystal Palace want to buy Tunchev from us. Tunchev returns from his Loan on the 1st November anyway so we will have 4 quality centre halfs then
I think he'll go back out on loan on the 1st of November anyway because I don't think there is first team football on offer for him here.
He wont be able to go back to Palace though as on a short term loan 93 days is the maximum length of time allowed
Leeds fan...in peace!! £5m for Matt Mills...........now you've had the pleaseure (or dis-pleasure) of watching him for 3mnths.....was he worth it? At the time i thought it was steep to say the least...un-proven in the prem where is ultimatley wher ya wanna be, and £5m isnt the price you pay for a "get us up then **** off" defender!?! So overall...not just with Mills, but some of the other boys ya bought...beckford, fernandez etc....good business?? I really wish we had spent a tenth of the money you have this season!!
You spent more the a tenth of the money we did - we spent around £10M not the £15M+ quoted by various other sources. As for my review of the signings so far: Mills - took his time settling in (that game against Reading was absolutely woeful) but when he did we had the best defence in the league. Of course he had to ruin it with that awful 2 foot tackle but he is only 24. Take away his sweets and put him on the naughty step and he will sort himself out. Schmeichal - Aside from the sending off (which was so stupid it still makes me laugh) he has been brilliant for us. Maybe he wasn't that good at Leeds but here he has found the form that made him first choice at Man City for a while. St Ledger - we will see how good he actually is in the next few games. Peltier - absolute gem and is the reason I'm not missing Naughton as much as I though I'd do. Konchesky - Meh. Beckford - not had a chance to see him properly yet due to injuries. Hopefully won't be a Tomas Brolin Nugent - Worth a lot more then we paid for him which was nothing as he came on a free. Danns - Got him on a free and has been alright. Paintsil - Got him on a free so can't complain too much. Ball - Another free so worth a shot I guess. Fernandes - is here on loan and we should definitely sign him up before a Premiership team goes for him. Johnson - here on loan, not had a chance to see him. Hopefully won't be a Roque Júnior
Yeh I think most would agree with that. Mills isn't worth £5m but sometimes you have to pay over the odds these days, so we shouldn't read too much into the fee. He's been OK overall and I'd like to think when he gets back he'll be as solid as he has been in the last few games. It's a bit early to judge any of them tbf, of the others, Peltier, Schmeichel, Nugent and Fernandes have all been a success so far, the rest haven't done much so far but it's still early days. As for Tunchev, IMO he should be playing tomorrow instead of St Ledger.
Yeah I pretty much agree with that as well. The only one I've been really disappointed by is Konchesky, even in the game against Direby I was genuinely nervous whenever he got on the ball, and for a ex-Prem player, his passing is appalling. Every time he got on the ball on Sunday, it ended up out of play for a goal kick to Brum. Top signings for me so far, this season, are: Mills, Schmiechal, Danns and Nugent. Of the others: Fernandes - Is still young and does tend to run around a lot and not much else, but is getting there. Beckford - Has a lot riding on his shoulders for us, needs to step up to the mark, Quick Time. Johnson - Time will tell with him, if he has recovered from his injuries. Ball - Same as Johnson really. Largely agree with the comments - Konchesky hasn't been brilliant but my real disappointtment has been Danns - not sure why Sven plays him wide when we have a genuine wide man in Lloyd Dyer sitting on the bench - our delivery to the front two was non-existant on Sunday - always thought Danns was a real talent when turned out for Palace - not done anything similar for us so far - IMO
Mills definatly helped us keep 4 clean sheets in a row (last time we had 3 clean sheets is 2007, god knows how long ago it was when we last got 4) Tunchev deserves a shot here, although i dont think he will get it with St Ledger here too. Hope hes picked as a sub on Sat and given some gametime.
