The feel that I'm getting over the happenings of Saturday. 1).....James Brent came over well at the morning meeting.........his board of directors showed a balance of skills and abilities........two of them being locals and Fans of the club. The extra bit of interest was the naming of a Director with vast experience in football financing (in Arsenal and Liverpool), talk of a possible quality hotel.......needed in Plymouth by Brent's comments. Overall....... good things talked about and planned for PAFC's future development as a club including the fanbase. 2).....Good result in the end on the pitch......the team showing that they can respond to a Burton goal and come back to win..........a stronger spine to the team even without Chadders being available.........but a desperate need for more experienced strikers to help the injury prone Chadwick. A quiet start for Wotton but a competent performance and his experience showed.......always the possibility of a Wotton howitzer to get the crowd roaring. 3).....Mentoring for Carl Fletcher can only be a plus........to be announced in the next week. Sean O'Driscoll was at the match yesterday, Neil Warnock in his paper column earlier in the week said he was coming...........couldn't find any comment about him being there or not.....was he ? 4).....Luke Young showed up well yesterday..........surely man of the match..........even thou Walton bagged a pair.........creates a problem.......will bigger clubs come sniffing around and snap him up..........if so surely not for peanuts anymore.........we don't need desperate survival money at present.........but a big fee obviously would be considered..........to help speed up the repayment of Staff and Players back wages. Yes we could be moving into better times.............but strikers are needed now............to help keep us in the Football League.
Good post Plym, yes Warnock was there by all accounts. Have we started the upturn? I certainly hope so!
One sunrise is all there has been and personally I would prefer to wait till there has been a few more before going off half cocked in thinking a corner has been turned. We have had so many false dawns to date and yesterday was not proof positive that this one is different somehow. That is not being negative it is being realistic. Crawley next week and the most we could hope for on paper is a point out of that one. A loss would be no surprise and a victory would be if we are all honest. (not that my prediction forecast will show any negativity or probable sense). Fine words from James Brent in the morning. But, again without being negative, all we have are words so far. When we see the plan coming together and better things appearing in reality then I will believe fully. There is a little bit of me that still says hardnosed businessman first with him and it is just his PR that is a massive improvement. Mind you I trust very few in any sort of power so it may just be my sceptical side coming to the fore. We have to trust him now as there is basically no choice so we can only hope he is a man of his word.
Well that took all of 10 seconds...... I wasn't arguing with you just giving my slant on it as well which was lets not get carried away again too soon. See, that is agreeing.
Mrs sensible is in a position of power............surely you trust her...........or let her think so ?
She "thinks" she is in a position of power. There is a world of difference between that and having any in reality. I know I am from my silent stance I take when she speaks. Honest.
The Herald are saying that it is Sean O'Driscoll who will be Carl Fletchers mentor...........talks are on going..........but an announcement will be made later in the week.
"hardnosed businessman first" What's wrong with that Sensible, after the fiasco caused by the last lot? It strikes me that we need a disciplined recovery from a crippling financial position and not some woolly headed gambler trying to tell us we'll be in the Premier League in 5 years' time.
I expect the NEW WORLD looked a hopeful bunch at the time............but a do admit that this coming together of the new board of Directors looks promising............I hope I'm not proven wrong.
If Fletcher has asked for another "pair of eyes" this has to be a positive and realistic move, rather than imposing a new manager with all the negative repercussions that would follow within the existing coaching staff.Makes perfect sense for O'driscoll to come, which he almost certainly is given his experience and connections with Fletcher. As others have said for once Saturday was a GOOD argyle day, there was a positive forward looking Brent meeting followed up by a positive footballing display. On that basis I feel more confident we can give Crawley a real game on Saturday. But as always we will see.And boy what a great show of support in the Devonport on Sat,I think the new flag helped to get us all in the mood.
Nothing wrong with being a hard nosed businessman notdistant. However I will judge him on what he does with Argyle rather than his own portfolio and development. Mostly up to now there have been lots of words. It is putting those words into practice that counts. So far he appears to have kept his word but the going hasn't gotten that tough yet. I am simply not going to get carried away on a crest of a wave in the James Brent love in. I hope he turns out to be a really good thing for us of course.
