Hoops cock-a-hoop over Hooper Published 22:45 13/10/11 By Alan Nixon Neil Warnock is ready to head a massive £7million QPR bid for Celticâs English striker Gary Hooper â in a transfer window bonanza. Warnock wants to beat off all rival bidders for Hooper, the ex-Scunthorpe hitman whose goals in the SPL have not gone *unnoticed by Three Lions chief Fabio Capello. The Hoops will have loads of money to buy some top talent in the New Year and Warnock is keen to see off Leicester and Newcastle. Celtic rejected an approach from the wealthy Foxes at the end of the last window, but face an awkward task if they are tested by a Premier League club in January. Hooper, 23, could be tempted back to England, especially if he believes he can gatecrash Capelloâs England Euro 2012 finals squad. And a £7m offer from Loftus Road would certainly interest the money men at Celtic after missing out on *Champions League riches. Celtic midfielder Joe Ledley believes free agent target James McFadden, 28, would be a super signing. Ledley said: âIâve seen Faddy play on the wing for Scotland many times â and heâs a great player.â YOU THE MANAGER: Play the Mirror's fantasy football game 'You the Manager' for FREE! Is Hooper really worth £7mill, or is that fee includng his salary? Would prefer to have AJ on board as he has the premier league experience we need
We were looking at buying him for £2 million when he was still at Scunthorpe, not sure whether we could do better for £7 million.Getting goals in the Scottish Prem is one thing but the Premier League is a different ball game alltogether!
i would take him but not for 7mill, we could probably get him for 4/5 but to get him i reckon we should be in a stable position in prem as i don't think he would come if we were in bottom 3.
Agree with Jeff, 4-5 million should get Hooper in Hoops. Always rated him, i'm suprised only us and Newcastle are looking at him.
"The Hoops will have loads of money to buy some top talent in the New Year" Typical rubbish written by another 5hit stirrer.
Hooper would be a good signing but it still unproven in the Premiership. I'd like us to get him but also feel we need a proven striker who has scored goals at this level.
Just what I was going to say. We lost out on him when he was only worth 2 million, but why when he hasn't scored anywhere near as many goals in the SPL should he now be worth 7 million??? If they are the correct figures I'd be surprised if we are interested. We wouldn't meet Tottenham's evaluation of Crouch who is a far better option, so why would we cough up that amount for Hooper.
We had great reservations about Mackail-Smith and Graham adapting to life in the PL; surely Hooper falls into the same category? SPL doesn't look great on anybody's CV.
