http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17982691 Can't say I'm suprised as Trapattoni had already said he'd be taking the same side that qualified for the tournament. I'm a bit suprised he's not on the stand by list though, especially as its made up of three players from the championship, one from the SPL and one who hasn't even got a club!
bright side is he gets a good holiday and we get him fully rested for next term, for the same selfish reasons hope none of them get on the plane to play in this tin pot tournament....summer is for cricket for heavens sake!
Problem is, to get the most from Hoolahan you have to play to his strengths. I dont think Trapattoni is prepared to do that. His and Irelands loss.
To be honest, Hoolahan has been pretty inconsistent this season. If he had played anything like as good as he did vs Arsenal all season he no manager could ignore him, but the truth is that he hasn't.
Hoolahan is a technically gifted attacking midifelder Thats the reason he isn't going. Ireland are going to be the "Stoke" of the tournament
I'd say he has been very consistent, he's had a few quite games but I think he's our best attacking player and certainly the most fun to watch. I've said it many times before but Hoolahan has the hardest job in the team because he's in the open to get shot at, a bit like a goalkeeper. Mistakes are magnified and more likely in the position he plays in. That's why I admire him so much. Brave player, a travesty he's not getting even a chance.
Completely agree, Wes is a top player who we are lucky to have. Had some quiet games this season but still offers so much to the team. Carrabuh agree about most difficult job, I also think some fans expect so much from him when he loses the ball people get frustrated really easy and all of a sudden have short memories about what he may have done earlier in game.
Agree entirely, people who moan about Hoolahan should quite frankly be shot. It is amazing the amount of moronic groans because he doesn't shoot with about three players directly between him and the goal. I just don't get them, he's a fantastic player.
This makes so much more sense :- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Green_(footballer_born_1983) A Derby County reject, currently 'unattached'. He's worth including more than a nippy, tricky little Irish midfielder who has helped his team to mid-table safety with games to spare
I agree that he's an amazing player. But he hasn't quite produced what he's capable of this season. At times he's been amazing though. But it's great to have both him and Howson in the team. Norfolk's Iniesta and Messi.
He's the antithesis of the formulaic players that the British hold in such high regard like Gerrard and Rooney et al. They are all power and straight lines. Thats why I like him so much, he's different as well as good.
Im more baffled with the fact pilkington hasnt been included! 8 goals in 29 appearances from midfield is rather good. Yet they take james mcclean who played 0 minutes in their qualifying campaign. I think the "little old norwich" springs to mind
Something to be said for Wes, even when he's having an off day, his work-rate is phenomenal. Real pity he isn't going. As for Pilks, would be great to see him get a chance too.
Feel really sorry for Wes, he deserves it, and the sooner the Italian goes the better (shouldn't be long). Don't feel the same about Pilks though, he's English, and didn't even know he was eligible, so maybe he should look at a future England place. If the Trap is reading this, however, I have dual nationality, and my phone is always on!
