Interesting signing. Played in the Chamions League last year. http://www.westlondonsport.com/fulham/fulham-boss-magath-brings-in-defender 29 so nicely experienced.
Sounds like a very experienced player to get on a free transfer especially as he is still in his twenties. Sounds like Reither may be on his way! Three more to go for me a centre half, a centre mid and a centre forward. I'm assuming the Davidson left back deal is going ahead otherwise you can add a left back to the above
If anyone on this forum watches the bundesliga would love to know what kind of player Hoogland is, attacking full back or no nonsense defender and most important does he have any pace??
I hope this does mean Riether is on his way out (and Hoogland would seem a suitable replacement). We have a very good prospect in Grimmer who is ready for a crack at the Championship, so I really hope he won't be stuck behind Hoogland and Riether. My one concern is that we need to be adding to the squad rather than replacing the few elements left. However if Magath doesn't fancy Riether, we need to get him out. No more squad discord, please.
I have to say, I am liking the fact that we are keeping our cards close to our chest regarding our moves this summer. Who had heard a rumour of Hoogland before this morning? We might actually get the players we want if we don't take it public/deal with clubs who make everything public.
I have to admit, this signing doesn't fill me with the greatest confidence. He has played 26 league games over the last 4 years suggesting he's either been very injury prone or been very poor during his so called 'prime years'. I can only hope that he has had injuries and the worst is behind him but the fact that his last (and only) 30+ game season was in 08/09 doesn't give me confidence. Hopefully I'm wrong and he manages a full season but I suspect we'll be seeing quite a bit of Zverotic/Grimmer next year.
Fulham Ireland there's seems to be a bit of a difference in his appearences depending on what website you look at, they are debating it on fof as we speak! Although he has had his injury/illness issues it seems to be agreed that last season he played 22 times for Schalke who finished third in the German table and also made a few champions league appearences
Yes from the stats I've seen last year was his most consistent season since that 08/09 season I mentioned. The few before that were limited to a couple of appearances here and there and I believe he missed one full season. Hopefully the fact that last season was his best for years suggests that he's past the problems. It's a fairly low risk transfer for us, only a one year deal and no transfer fee so he was probably worth taking a chance on.
Seems to have suffered from injuries to both his ankle and knee. And had nearly a whole season out with Pancratitis when on loan to Mainz. Took him nearly a whole season to get over a torn ankle ligament and last season only got back into the Schalke team for the last 14 games as their 1st choice RB Atsuto Uchida got injured.
Apologies for crossing with your post Fulhaman. I was caught in a kind of "Captain's moment" - mine was taking a 'phone call to say that my "Rugby World Cup 2015- Try Out" had been rescheduled. Anyway, on Timmy. From what I've gleened he appears to be more defensive than attack minded and I'm wondering if Felix is going to focus on 3 at the back. Namely: ..Hoogland.....Hutchinson....Amorebietta..
The other point in Hoogland's favour is that Felix has worked with him before. He's signing a known quantity, so he must be confident that Hoogland will fit into whatever system he has in mind.
