WHY ? We are rapidly using up an awful lot of luck - with 'below' standard performances - scraping 'last ditch' winners (when we should have lost), or freak a goal to save a point - it won't last much longer ! Today we hoofed the ball virtually for the whole game - and I don't think we won one header against the Southend defence. It didn't work - why did we persist? Surely JE must have seen that ! The game was almost finished before we began to put the ball on the ground.
performance was poor again. We had 5 in midfield but looked out numbered creating nothing. Why oh why hoof the ball to one striker against tall centre halfs. Missing Norris up top. Luck cannot continue all season. Amazing we are top. We could easily have had just 1 point from last 3 games instead of 7.
I hope that JE reads these posts as I too hate the notion of us playing 'hoofball' and straight into the hands of the opposition. A very stern test next week.
McGlashan was so under utilised. I thought Jed was going insane when he took Jackson and Garmston off for Loft and Paddy. I didn't think Morris offered too much. We are missing Norris up top, Southend were far too tall for us to have the ball in the air as much as we did.
Spain 2 England Embarrassed ! OK - so England didn't play hoofball - but Spain had the audacity to 'pass' the ball into the net for their second goal. ps - let's hope that shooting from The Gills today isn't as bad as the England attempts.
Thank you Gills, for under employment of the long ball today - we showed that we can play with it on the ground.
With Coventry having signed Ben Turner (6'4") from Cardiff in time for the weekend I hope that JE realises that 'Hoofball' may well prove to be futile. The way to beat them will be on the ground with pacey, intelligent football. And a defence that is not overdosed on 'Horlicks'....... Fingers crossed for at least a point.
It's good to see that Mark Stimson hasn't forgotten Hoofball - look what he's serving up his supporters http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34873067
