I only see reference to "long balls". There's no mention of "hoof balls",which are completely different.
Would you like to find some stats about how many passes each team has made? And whilst you're at it, the percentage of accurate ones. That would be more relevant.
Have to admit I thought the same as Ivor. One stat on its own can be meaningless. However, a ratio of passes made (accurate and otherwise) to goals scored would also be relevant.
Why don't you do all that if it's what you want to know. No team has been mentioned here, why are you so defensive?
ivor - I'm a respecter of you posts over there generally, but your forum is so full of crap about Cardiff, your protest about this thread is a bit rich mate.
I don't need to be defensive; no need whatsoever. But the implication is obvious. As Blue correctly intimated, stats quoted in isolation are about much use as a chocolate teapot. However, I am prepared to concede the obvious stat that, at the moment, you have more points than us. At the moment........

I agree that this stat doesn't tell you much, but I have to say that I also think passing stats that people on your board get excited about are pointless too. You can pass it around all you like in your own half (and a lot of teams let you do this, even the bigger ones because they know you're going nowhere) but it means nothing if you can't put the ball in the net (or stop it going in your own!). Thanks for that neveroff, never seen that site before it looks decent
Sparkey, absolutely not a protest, just a reasonable observation that one stat in isolation has been pulled to prove some point or other. The obvious implication to me is that we are a long ball team. Particularly, since Shelvey arrived it has been a tactic we use from time to time to break up the pattern of play and keep opposing defenders honest. But with the greatest respect, only a half wit would ever accuse us of being a long ball team. Out of interest, until recently I believe we topped the list of passes in the Division - might have slipped a little of late but we'll still be up there at or near as one of the top passing teams.
I know some on here are a bit slow, but there is a difference between long ball and your hoof ball tactics
Yes of course the implication was there, light banter that proves nothing, we know that. At least it is light banter though, unlike some of the posts we get on here. And in all fairness it got the bites it meant to, no harm done, not as if we mentioned someones family member in a derogative way.
You would have had no argument from me during Rodgers' tenure but Michael Laudrup has changed all that. Our game is now far more incisive with regard to possession and passes inside the oppo half. The point about putting the ball in the net, however, is valid. Taking Arsenal as an example, we had more possession, loads more passes, more chances and more shots at goal but still lost. Same with Liverpool where we reduced them to an imitation of a pub team in the second half but only drew the game (thanks, Jonjo). Same at Southampton where we battered them for 70 minutes of the game having played just two days previously, but lost. At the end of the day goals win matches. How they are obtained is irrelevant but I am totally happy right now because I know the goals will come playing the style of football that is right for us.
I don't angle or fish and I neither do I bite. I do like to debate football though, which is what I've been doing. No time for any of the other stuff.
