Sir Ken Dodd? Services to what? Tax dodging?? Murray; yes. Farah; yes. Dodd; **** off! Personal opinion, but there it is...
****ing hell I've been banned more times than I've had hot dinners. I'm blocked from 5 different team boards and I've upset half of the forum. I'm not really sure that's worthy of an award Apart from that, I'm a sound lad.
I'm self appointing myself a sir lads, I think I've got enough sway now, but I'm ****ed if I can name change on this frickin phone.
I don't agree with successful sports people being knighted. It's for 'services to sport' isn't it but let's be honest anyone who makes it to the top of their game is doing it for themselves and nobody else. There's nothing wrong with that, it just doesn't make you a saint that's all. If once they retire they continue to work in their sport, raising the profile, being an ambassador, setting up a foundation, doing charity work then yeah they've earned it then. Sir Andy Murray just for being good at tennis and winning stuff? Load of bullshit if you ask me.
That's what I believe, too, Nacho . . . . these awards have been totally devalued because they seem to be given to so many that simply do not deserve them, when those who might actually deserve recognition (for long term charitable services, for example) get now't
I agree mate. Not his fault, he didn't ask to be knighted but Nadal and Djokavic must be pissing themselves. He's been world number 1 for 2 minutes.
Well said. Just cos some gimp can kick a ball or play puffy tennis. Who gives a ****. They get paid **** loads for it anyway.
There's many on this board like myself who have been suffering by supporting SAFC for over 50 years that is surely worth more than being a good athlete etc and are much more deserving of a Knighthood than Andy F...ing Murray, and he's a miserable cnut to boot. Happy New Year everybody.
I've nothing against top honours for sportsmen but only after they have retired. It sounds it bit silly on the commentary, 'great backhand from Sir Andrew' and in any case it's reasonable to consider a career as a whole. (It's also worth considering the current 'noises offstage', concerning Sir Bradley and wonder if his award might not have been best held till had finished). This 'Honours for Sportspeople' is something new though. It used to be a rarity, now it seems to happen every year. No doubt the Politicians like to shine in the reflected light.
Didn't he serve time for it? it just sort of devalues the whole thing really. Imagine Murray in years to come when his grand kids ask him "who else got an MBE with you?" 'Some ****ing tax dodging ex con ****ing scouse **** with buck teeth"
Ken Dodd was found not guilty at his trial to the surprise of everybody including Ken himself. So he hasnt actually got a criminal record.
