You know I get alot of abuse for being negative on here, however some of you do nothing but blame individual players week after week. We were playing Liverpool away from home for **** sake! they have 2 world class full backs so you can give Jonas and Obertan a break in this one. We are still 7th and Tiote and Ba going is the onky negative I can think of based on what we thought at the beginning of the season.

I was wrong about this result so I'm now usually wrong about most things but I'm right in saying were doing better than we could have hoped this season.

Has Obertan impressed anyone this season though, I'm not just talking about this game, I've never seen him play well in his 3 years of being in England as for his two assits, you throw enough **** at the wall some will stick..

Pardew is becoming deluded with this kid!!

Sorry but Sammy isn't good enough yet at all but Jonas does need as rest. I remember Ferguson being brilliant against Stoke at Left wing and Obertan sould be dropped for Santon. It's time for Pardew to try something different, however this Obertan hating won't help anyone. We were poor as a team today simple as that.

Sammy is **** as well to be fair. But Obertan makes **** seem good. Worst played to ever wear the shirt. Signing Heskey and playing him RM would be improvement. Ben Arfa left with Fergie right would do for now.

Just a tad harsh? Tbf it's hard to not be in his case though I try not to be fickle - he's had good games for us! Ala Stoke & Blackburn. The most infuriating aspect of him is when he makes a dire mistake he doesn't seem remotely phased. He has however shown signs of improving and I still think he just needs time.

I've never seen him have a good game. He's had good moments in a couple of games but never seen him put in a performance which seems like an 8/9 out of 10. Even the Stoke game I noticed how man attacks break down when he gets the ball. He can't beat a man. He doesn't work hard. No end product. Struggles with the basics. In all seriousness, no matter what level he plays at, he doesn't have the basic skills to suceed. I don't think he could cut it in the Championship.

Totally agree, everyone I know who isn't a Newcastle fan just laugh he is even in the side, some fans seem to delude them selves he will improve... Well why not bring him on the last 30 mins as a impact sub, but don't bloody start him every game!

We do have other options who are alot better then him!!

I will agree his indecisiveness often breaks down attacks very often - its infuriating. Though his good spells in a game often come when the team is on the front foot and attacking with confidence; and I think that's really what the main issue is - confidence. When it's high he reacts on instincts a lot more and coupled with his pace and locker of tricks he's a real handful.

This. Why start him for a season hoping he improves. We can't afford to start someone 33 times in a season hoping the improve. Use him from the bench. Do we just do fitness training? I'm sure training should be where he learns how to kick the ball accurately into the box, not by trying it and failing once a week in a match!

I've heard of confidence players, they are common. But a confidence player on the wing only has to beat one man normally and he'll be flying for the next half hour. Obertan can skip past a player then stop and try and pass it back through the player.

I think Obertan's issues maybe a little worse than your 'common confidence player' however. I can see why everyone is calling for his head - he was quite frankly abysmal today. But he is obviously heavily influenced by confidence at this stage in his career and the whole team were poor tonight. Saying he would struggle in the CC is a little OTT even if he did play badly, as he has given PL fullbacks a good game before tonight.

He has beaten PL fullbacks a number of times, he has had good moments. But I don't think any side at any level can afford to regular play a player who's head will drop for about 4 games at a time if they get tackled once. Because of his 'issues' he'll never be able to get any sort of sustainable form and if given starts like he is for us, 9 games out of 10 will be ****ing horrific.

I'm so sick of Obertan. He can't even make a 5metre pass, I've said it before... The 2nd worst passer is Raylor.

When Obertan ran into the ref with the ball <doh> he just seemed to stand there as if he was waiting for the ref to kick the ball back. Incredibly frustrating player to watch at the moment.

I've tried to be patient but Obertan is ****ing useless. The lad has no footballing brain. Simpson was poor but I'm not sure why Pardew had him so far pushed on at times. He's obviously spotted something tactical to exploit but I just thought it unbalanced us. Not gonna jump on the Simpson bashing bandwagon though, he's been excellent of late overall.

Jonas has been appauling since Stoke and it used to be him that was the brunt of all blame. The fact is your all being far to critical of being found out against one of the top clubs. We were never supposed to be competeing where we are now. It's going to ge another come down on Wednesday but after that things get easier.

Apparently Obertan has blistering pace but I and the rest of the world hasn't seen it. Lets all be frank here - he is god awful and he will not come good.

He doesn't beat anyone and he passes the ball because he simply doesn't know what to do with it. I cannot believed 3 million was spent on him I really can't. I realise Pardew must feel obliged to play him but he just isn't good enough. Him and Simpson holding our right basically gives teams Carte blanche to do what they like
