linky ML's honesty is refreshing in stark contrast to Brenda and Bobby Brown Shoes. A brief but welcome article from Auntie.
I can see Wieghorst taking over as manager next season if ML does leave. But the one thing we can be sure of, is that if Mr Laudrup says he will stay for another season, he will stay. Which is quite refreshing in these times when you cannot really believe a word out of the mouths of players and clubs.
Great stuff. I really hope he stays for a long time (though I wouldn't mind him coaching the danish national team ). As a manager I can't picture a greater place to be than in Swansea in these exciting times. It must be far more rewarding watching the team grow and beat the likes of Valencia than managing a bigger club that already has tried it all. I really hope he thinks and will continuing thinking the same way.
"ML's honesty is refreshing in stark contrast to Brenda and Bobby Brown Shoes". So steve, you infer that two of Swansea City's greatest ex Managers are dishonest. What do you base that on? Some people have very short memories, and I'm sure that ML would be the first to acknowledge that the managerial input by these two gentlemen has actually made his job a lot easier, Martinez and Rodgers put this Club on the "football map",perhaps it's time for you to celebrate their achievements rather than sulk like a love lorn teenager because they had the audacity to leave, and seek advancement in their chosen profession.
Martinez said he would have to be forced out to leave the swans, left at the first opportunity. Rodgers had a gentlemans agreement that he would not come in for any of our players, 2 weeks later bought Joe Allen. I appreciate everything both these done for us and have no ill will towards them but surely these examples qualify as dishonest.
swans-m. Martinez may well have said what you say he did,I wouldn't know. However, since that's just the sort of thing supporters like to hear,it shouldn't have been taken too literally. For instance, had he said in a weak moment that Swansea were the only Club he ever wanted to manage, would that disbar him from ever managing any other team? Clearly he would have meant what he said at the time, but situations and personal circumstances can, and do, change. Surely you are not being holier than thou. Have YOU never said something which you meant at the time, but then reneged on? As for Rogers, well, Allen wanted to leave,so how can you blame anyone else for him making that choice? I don't think any of your reasons justify them being referred to as dishonest. That's a very serious accusation, and your reasons would be laughed out of Court, were they put to a legal test.
Maybe chill out a bit? It's not a serious accusation. I'm reveling in the refreshing honesty of our greatest manager. ML has always said he will leave but when he says he will stay (as he did for this season) he does. and the difference between swan-m and Rodgers/Martinez reneging on a promise is the fact that the last 2 did it publicly and hurt 1,000s of Jacks. I doubt swan-m has ever achieved the feat himself. This was just linking to a positive article and the least important part of my post was jumped on. Back to the point: Isn't Laudrup great?!!?
Im not claiming to be anything. Im just pointing out what they have done that would make them dishonest. Not talking about anything legal here or going to court. Rodgers said while leaving that he would not come in for any of our players, he went back on his word. Theres no two ways about it, thats what he did. Martinez when taking out the job said he would never leave the swans and that he would have to be forced out or sacked. Now obviously i know that circumstances change, but this is what he said and what would have been seen by many jacks as dishonest. Im not bitter about either of these things, we got 15m for Allen and bought some real quality with it so im happy. But that doesn't escape the fact that Rodgers went back on his word originally.
"It's not a serious accusation". In the same way that you can't dig half a hole,a person is either honest,or not. Your inference was quite clear,to me anyway. You may not have really meant it,just like when Martinez said he wouldn't leave The Swans'. See how easy it is to say something and not REALLY mean it? Oh,and I agree, Laudrup is great. Let's hope he weighs up EVERY word he utters lest he make a promise he can't keep in the future. I'm chilled ,'bro.
It's not weighing up "EVERY word" is it? It's about not promising something to football fans of all people that might come back to haunt you. the 2 examples above are examples of something that it would be better never to say. ML has been very guarded when asked about his future and always measures his words. He has never promised anything he can't guarantee. It's refreshing, it's honest. It's "REALLY" not that difficult.
Vetch - they said one thing and did another - now if that's not dishonest in your book fine - leave others to their opinions. I met Bredan two weeks before he went to Liverpool and he said he had no intentions of talking to other clubs. Does it negate what they did - absolutely not and we are all grateful - but it is what it is - saying one thing and doing another
It would be nice to read some positive comments about Martinez and Rodgers' achievements, rather than how they said one thing and did another- on one occasion each. Of course, everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I am not saying otherwise, but this is trotted out so often that anyone reading about them would think that that is their only legacy. I don't think it's fair,or reasonable,to only home in on these so called life long promises, rather than revel in their achievements.
When the media say Laudrup is carrying on from what Rodgers started here, people are always quick to point out that it was in fact Martinez that integrated this style. He deserves a massive amount of credit for what he done, as does Rodgers. But that's not what this thread is pointing out. This thread is highlighting a very refreshing trait that laudrup has in that he is honest, dignified and maintains a degree of sophistication. The media always point this out too. And I agree that it is a nice change from what we have had in the past. People like Rodgers and Martinez only say what they think people want to hear. How many times have we used the words resolve and outstanding from Rodgers?
So there is a difference between hype / propaganda and a serious statement of intent. Martinez and Rogers were "guility" of the former on too many occasions - especially Rogers .... every press conference had more blarney than substance. Of course statements of intent are made point in time and circumstances do change. I think Laudrup is capable of understanding the difference between these two ways of talking to the media - Martinez and Rogers perhaps not so savvy. He does not seem prone to hype and propaganda, and to date he appears to say what he really means and he has done what he says. So take it all at face value and so far so good. When he plans to exit I doubt that he will say one thing and do another .... unless HJ and the Board kick him out.
Martinez,Rodgers,Laudrup-three different people;three different ways of doing things;three decent human beings. Three people who only had/have good intentions for the Club. Even the oft maligned Sousa can be positively mentioned in the same sentence as this illustrious trio. So.let's appreciate them for what they brought here, and leave the empty promises in the past, where they belong.
Agree - there was no malice with Martinez and Rogers, I think they were just being them and spoke off-the-cuff in the natural way that they do.
The way I see it All 3 have absolutely outstanding for our club, All three deserve equal praise for where we are now. But, I do tend to agree a little with the op. I got fed up to my back teeth with BR interviews after each game. The amounts of Brilliants, Superbs and outstandings were getting sickening in the end. Both him and Martinez were the inteviewers delight. However I see ML saying it a little more as it is without the blarney.
Martinez is on record saying that you would have to kick me out of the club, he also acted dis honestly in his pursuit of the wigan job and tapping up our players. Rodgers did have a gentlemans agreement not to take our players, he also used the clubs inside knowledge to activate the release clause in Joe Allens contract. the gentlemans agreement is again something that was publically stated. So yes, I 100% back up what Swans M is saying . Its dis honest ,which ever way you slice it. zero integrity
I will also add that they did good things for the club but at the same time they would be fooking nowhere if it wasn't for the Swans ,especially that slimey cnut Martinez who was playing non league football for chester when we took him off the scrap heap and gave him a chance that a 100 other clubs would never have done in a million years! he wouldn't have even got a tea ladies job at wigan if we didn't risk the future of our club to take a well informed gamble on him. People talk about these guys saying what they did for us but forget to mention what we did for them!! it boils my piss to be honest! Martinez and Rodgers would be nobodies if it wasn't for Swansea city FC They did good work for us but its clear to now see that our our board also have a knack of getting the right person, so if it wasn't them it probably would have been someone else such was the vision and plan of our club, credit is deserved both ways. Sousa never gets a mention but he did an amazing job with no money and hardly any fit players for 2 months, sorted out the defence and improved our tactical awareness immensely ,we'd still be trying for promotion if bobby was still here so I guess we should be thankful he is a deceitful man
The "kick me out of the club" comment should/could have been taken with a pinch of salt, especially when considering that he could well have gotten the sack at any time. He was just saying what supporters want to hear. Football Managers have feet of clay just like the rest of us,and they should be treated accordingly. There are far worst dishonesty scenarios that could be recounted hereabouts, but no point really. Best all round,I feel, to remember them both for their efforts in the cause. Totally agree that Swans' provided a springboard for them, but I think we should take some pride in the fact that two P.L.Clubs are now managed by our ex managers. People tend to forget Sousa' s contribution, which is a pity. I really like him,he's a classy guy.
