West Ham and QPR have been put on red alert after Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill revealed homesick Kieran Richardson wants to leave the club.

The one-time England midfielder is keen on a return to London and threw his shirt into the crowd after the Black Cats 1-1 draw with Arsenal at the Emirates.

Exit ahead: Kieran Richardson wants to leave Sunderland
O'Neill is reluctant to lose the versatile 27-year-old but the former Manchester United star looks set to leave the North-East club before the summer transfer window slams shut at the end of the month.

'Kieran came to see me a while ago in the last transfer window. For family issues and things, he thought there maybe needed a change,' said O'Neill, speaking to sky Sports.

'No-one has come in and made an offer. That, though, does not mean there is nothing happening, I just don't know.

'But if he performs like he did against Arsenal, I would like to keep him.'

Richardson was a schoolboy at Upton Park before leaving for Old Trafford in 2001.

Hammers boss Sam Allardyce is believed to be interested in signing him but faces competition from QPR manager Mark Hughes, who is desperate to bolster his squad after their 5-0 opening day hammering at home to Swansea.

I feel as certain as I can be that Mark Hughes has not spoken to any Daily Fail journo and may, or may NOT be desperate to bolster his squad.

We've allowed ourselves to be sucked into despondency after one game - not critical of anyone else, just myself!

How many times have we been tonked and then 'the other QPR team' comes out the next week or two later and makes amends.

Ok, so it was not the start we hoped for but, thankfully, it is not the end of the story.

I read that MH was writing for the Mail, and that they may be getting more info than others about our Club? Though I doubt MH gives away too much.
