First home game of the season in the English League Cup....also known as the Carabao Cup. A chance for Rooney to try and correct the shambles that Argyle sank to at Sheffield W.
Hazard, Mumba, Pleguezuelo, Szuks, Edwards, Hardie, Wright, Gyabi, Randell, Waine, Issaka. Subs. Holman (k), Ogbeta, Cissoko, Whittaker, Bundu, Gibson, Forshaw, Sorinola, Jenkins-Davies. Nine changes from the debacle of Sunday.. PS.....Dan Holman goalkeeper.....Ist year Academy player.
3-0...F/T Waine...62mins Hardie...81mins Bundu...84mins. Scored the goals in the end.....but more questions than answers.
That was as one-aided a game as you could expect to see but of of course, that’s as it should be, no disrespect to Cheltenham. Issaka got the MotM on-screen and he was unplayable. By the same measure, Cissoko was not far behind though when he came on. In truth though there was no-one out there who wasn’t worth an 8/10. The fireworks even seemed to mark a good performance, appearing over the Green Taveners roof right on cue at the end. There will be much harder games to come but I think Wayne Rooney will be delighted with this after the literally shocking performance on Saturday.
