Ipswich Town are close to announcing the signing of Irish left-winger Stephen Hunt on a short-term deal until January.
If this was Paul Jewell signing him then there would be comments of "Smacks of desperation" etc. As it stands though, this could be a shrewd piece of business
Actually KOPR, i think this DOES sound like an act of desperation from MM... Rather than play our own (tabb, wordsworth, taylor et al) he's going for one "of his own" in (potentially) signing Hunt. He was a half decent player in his prime, but is way past his best and has been out of the game for a while now. MM needs to start playing our players and give them some valuable game time, as opposed to signing mercenaries again. Apparently Hunt was offered more money by Blackpool earlier in the season, but that fell through, and now that no one else wants him, he's possibly coming to us now.
Depends which side of the fence you stand.............i'm guessing that those backing Mick will call it a good move ...and the AntiMicks will call it something else... As for me i'll wait and see....
This could be very good for us in the short term. Tunnicliffe has been impressive but he is not a left winger - he has to cut in on his right foot every time to get a cross in. Hunt on the left with Tunnicliffe replacing Hyam in the middle could work well.
Sorry but if we signing him, even on the short term then he is one of our players. It'll give us creativity and if he does sh*t then we let him go at the end of his contact.
Personally i think this would be a good piece of business, as mentioned by Wright, Hunt on left enables Tunni to move inside. I have always rated Hunt, not sure if he still has it but it is short term so nowt to lose!!
Tunnicliffe really hasn't impressed me and one of our biggest problems is a lack of natural wide talent Short term deal and a freebies means very little risk. All sounds good to me
Not sure your making any sense.............................but nothing new i suppose...............would you like to try and explain what your on about??
I always liked him when he was at Reading and did decently at Wolves. Reminded me of a slightly better Ian Westlake. Don't think we actually have a winger in our squad so will be good to have some natural width and a little bit of creativity. Although again is he going to be that much different to what we have in Midfield, he's a bit like Tabb but more likely to stay out wide. Think we need a little more guile in midfield as currently we've got quite a few work horses, who are very dogged but I geuss that's the Mick McCarthy way!!
For someone you're always berating Weighty - e.g. "but nothing new i suppose" - I seem to have my finger on the pulse. A month ago: "I found McCarthy's comments about not wanting to sign Hunt rather odd. With the greatest of respect, Wordsworth hasn't played because he's not good enough and Tunnicliffe can play anywhere in midfield and is on loan. I would take Hunt in a heartbeat." Maybe one day the reality will hit which one of us is actually the one talking ****e. This is a superb signing
Not sure what he will bring to the party, but once again, still no injection of pace, don't think he's classed as a speed merchant, but we have to give him a chance
Attacking threat and then some. I would not fancy being a right back up against Cresswell and Hunt! My only concern would be about balance because we don't really have that threat at all down the right hand side.
Jesus Wept.... We've had some minor personal spats on this board. Why don't you two just kiss and make up If we can put up with some of the travelling budgies up the road we should be able to at least keep ourselves from pulling each other to pieces
