Simon Thomas just tweeted that there will be "some significant news" regarding Holts future today.

Could be but I think that's to announce Whittaker and, hopefully, Butterfield.

It could go either way really, there have been whispers that holt and hughton had a successful chat, but there are also rumors that he's going to Sunderland. No point worrying about it really.

I'll be massively pissed off with myself if he does go to Sunderland. I've been saying that's where he'll end up for weeks and one of our regular posters (sorry can't remember who off the top of my head) took the advice and stuck a tenner on it at 10/1 a few weeks back.

Paddy Power didn't have it running as a market so I didn't put anything on it myself - <doh>

I actually am at the point where I don't care. If he stays than he stays, if he goes than he goes. I think we are the at the point where we should move on and let him go.

I think most of us are thinking along those lines now, either way time for some closure. If I want the drama i'll watch Eastenders <laugh>

In a strange way, I don't consider him to be one of our players at the moment. If he stays I will feel like its a new signing, but I only want him to stay if he wants to and will give his all like last season. If he leaves I'm just interested in how much money we get. I sort of half wonder if selling him and using the money, plus a bit more, to get a young exciting striker in might be the best move for the future.

I still think that, providing he stays, it will be the biggest bit of business that Hughton does all Summer. The man has done so much for us over the last three years, let's not pretend he won't be missed.

The second most important piece of business CH does may be the signing of Jacob Butterfield though - he looks quite a player, doesn't he?

Will he be the same player If he stays? I don't think he will, as he will have lost a lot of the fans, probably stripped of captaincy as well and I just think he will be seen in a different light. That will affect him I think.

I appreciate his contribution in the last few seasons, but I don't like him after this summer in all honesty. I wasn't fussed about him wanting to leave fair enough, but to reiterate his desire to leave the day after Lambert left was kicking a club that gave him so much whilst we were down. That has made me dislike him.

As with Butterfield, looks like a great capture, heard Hughton really sold the move to him. IHWT

    Hi,
I think that if we got £5/6m for a player aged 31, that could be a good piece of business. Bear in mind, Holt won't be a surprise package to defenders next season, so his goal tally may be reduced. Any money received via a transfer, could be spent on a young, hungry player, new to premiership defenders.

    Just my opinion...

    Welcome canary and proud

A fair post. I guess we will never know, if he goes, what would have happened next season with him in the team. Could be a one-season wonder, could bang in 15 goals.
If he really has made his mind up to go, i think there is little CH can do to persuade him otherwise in the talks - which must have happened now.

on the upside, Butterfield looks an excellent addition from what i have read.

A little surprised to see a few people thinking Norwich City would release "significant news" to tell the world a player is leaving the club. If he was going then a press conference at his new club would the normal, hence I get the feeling if this "significant news" is about Grant Holt then he is staying.

<ok> I agree with this Yellowlittle. His behaviour has pissed me right off.
If he's staying or going I'm not that fussed, I just want it over with!

i get that 5-6million for a 31 year old is great money, and were it not our three time player of the season, i'd snatch their hand off - but 5-6million isn't going to mean anything if we cant score goals next season and were to get relegated...also i'd worry about how it would affect our other players mentally - regardless of whatever talent we were to get in - he is a massive part of that dressing room, and the players know it...in summary, i dont bloody know what i want...

the way it played out on twitter, the day after lambert left was unfortunate, and at the time really got my back up...i was proper furious with him for taking such a swipe on what was a dark day for fans...but looking back to it, i think a few of us went a bit mental for 48 hours when PL bolted...particularly when you think that PL has been such a massive influence on holt's career - turning him from a 3rd division striker to a possible England call up...

i dont think he will lose the fans and i wouldn't have thought the captaincy - find it a bit off you are talking like that - remember what the guy has done for us over the last 3 years...we wouldn't be anywhere near where we are without him, and frankly, for what he has done for us, he deserves a bigger cut of the pie...its all well and good for the rest of the squad, who will most likely pocket themselves vast fortunes because they are PLs young and hungry crew - but holt has been in the bargain basement most of his career, and this is it for him...last chance saloon...you shouldn't fall out with him for wanting the best for himself and his family once his playing days finish...that said, i'd find it very, very hard watching match of the day with him not being kitted out in yellow and green...cant even imagine it...

anyway, enough rambling - either way it'll be good to draw a line under all this and move forward...whatever way that is -

very very pleased about butterfield...he'll be the next one they come sniffing after...fella from rangers is great business on a free...probably not going to set the world on fire - but from the little i know, steady and reliable...

Very sound advice, but few footballers have ever taken it to heart, particularly those headed for Manchester City! <laugh>

Simon Thomas didn't say that it was norwich releasing the news, it could well be that another club are announcing having a bid accepted.
