O'Neill waits on striker's Canaries talks Norwich City, 16:21, May 21, 2012 Sunderland are waiting to see the outcome of crunch talks between Grant Holt and Norwich City after he had a transfer request rejected. Black Cats boss Martin O'Neill has been linked with a possible swoop for the 31-year-old former Shrewsbury, Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest striker, who scored 17 goals to help the Canaries secure a creditable 12th-placed finish in their first season back in the Premier League. And, the Northern Irishman's hopes of replacing the outgoing loan hitman Nicklas Bendtner at the Stadium of Light were boosted when Holt handed in a transfer request on Friday. However, Norwich immediately turned down his request and Holt, along with his agent Lee Payner, is now set to hold talks with City chief executive David McNally on Monday afternoon in an attempt to 'resolve' their differences. Payne claims Holt's request to leave Carrow Road was nothing to do with wages so it remains to be seen if there is an issue which can be cleared up. But O'Neill will no doubt be waiting in the wings and ready to pounce should Holt step up his efforts to quit the Norfolk outfit this summer. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Could work out well for us, but dare say it will come down to price and wages , as usual, but dont believe Mon will be pushed around, unlike other managers weve had in the past. http://www.clubcall.com/norwich-city/oneill-waits-on-strikers-canaries-talks-1431210.html
I'm really keen on this Bill, if we can get him for the right money. Norwich fans are talking at £7million, if that was the money, it'd be too rich for a 31 year-old.
just read a little about him 31 year old scored goals for most of the clubs he has played for might do a job for us but i would expect better
Anthing more than £4m is a walk away for me, as effectively we are throwing £4m away as he will have no resale value. That said, he still has a good 2 or 3 years in him and may well still be hungry for one last big hurrah at a bigger club than Norwich.
Yeah, £4million is bang on the money for me Cest, although I doubt that Norwich would sell for that figure. The quotes are very interesting from his agent, there's more to the transfer request than meets the eye, for sure.
Aye, seems that there has been some real animosity behind the scenes and it looks like it can't be fixed easily. He could of course just be hankering after a big pay rise (aka Davies at Bolton) and it may come to nowt but I'd say £4m is the absolute maximum for a 31 year old lad imo.
Yep, Especially taking into account the fact he's only had one season in the big league. He would be a weapon though, with Mc & Seb (Sounds like a cop show, dunnit?)
To be fair mate, you'll find nothing but respect from Sunderland fans towards Norwich (ask around, you'll see it's mutual). We are a bigger club though, and also only 50 mins drive from Grants family in Cumbria. I'd be more concerned about losing Lambert, one of the best gaffers out there, much harder to replace.
I'm a lot more concerned about PL leaving than Holt - although I think we will have PL for atleast another season. Holt would be very attracted to Sunderland if you made a move - decent team, good manager and close to his home. Let us Norwich fans hope todays meeting resolves whatever is the problem.
I'm not joking. When you have spent 8 years solid in the EPL I'll consider you as big as Wigan, who to be fair have done better than us up till the last 5 years. We are about to embark on our 6th consecutive EPL season and that's good for us. However, we have 39,500 average crowds (as opposed to your sell out 26,000) and the potential to fill the 49,000 SOL easily. That's why we offer a better option for the likes of Holt. It doesn't mean we will get him or indeed want him but we are a better option these days. That's a fact.
You got any insight at all as to the problem mate? Seems there's more to it than Holt just fancying a move, the way his agents talking, sounds as if he feels a promise has been broken. I hope you keep Lambert too mate, be a crying shame for such a talented gaffer to go to Villa.
