Great interview with the big man in the Telegraph today http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...-been-given-a-chance-to-play-for-England.html
Anyone who doesn't agree that he should have gone to the Euro's knows nothing about the beautiful game! Of course he was harshly treated, I'm sure that was a large part of his "tantrum" in the summer
Only confirms what we´ve known all along kickitoff, there´s far more to Mr. Holt than meets the eye
Brilliant piece. Hope it shuts a few people up. Theres far too many nutters out there like the guy in the coffee shop Holt described.
Holt has done more for this club in the last 3-4 seasons than anyone, and was instrumental in getting us into the Prem. TOP MAN
he is even higher in my esteem after that, and he is right, about himself last Summer, and Lambert now. Welbeck played against Montenegro and i believe he has scored one goal this season. bias? of course it is.
Holty would bury 70% + of Wellbeck's missed chances, plus he helps out in defence as well, Wellbeck, once he's lost the ball ambles aimlessly back to the half-way line!
I was for Holt going to the Euros but I don't think he'd last five minutes with most continental refs. He gets away with an awful lot.
Me thinking about the guy in the coffee shop having a go at Holt haha... please log in to view this image
Totally agree with him, and I think speaking out about it will only help the cause of players like Holt and Lambert. The bias involved is disgusting we beat an inform Liverpool comfortably Gerrard, Sturridge and Johnson all playing shockingly in comparison to their English saints counterparts Lallana/Cork Lambert/Rodriguez and Clyne. Yet we see all the Liverpool players called up and then the nation is shocked when we can't beat Montenegro!?
Half the England team cant get in their OWN TEAMS! Surely that should be a pre-requisite for playing for your country? Actually playing football? Apparently not. Players like Holt and Lambert, that would run themselves into the ground for England, will never get a look in. It's a disgrace. Form means nothing to them.
It would have been the most romantic story ever if a player like Holt could have shown that you can still rise from Non league to England star. Would have given every player hope and countered the malaise of Terry, Cole et al.
Holt definitely had the right to feel hard done by last season. What did Carroll do to justify his place? And I think Lambert should feel the same now. But it's not just Hodgson. When I raised the issue of Holt last year at my work place, everyone seemed to find it amusing that I thought Holt had deserved the chance to play. And I think everyone except me felt that Carroll was the better option.
