Sounds like this may be the reason, Holt has been told by the club that he is too old for a new 3 year contract, if this is the case then I don't see why he ain't been given a new contract as 3 years is not too long, he is only 31 and he would only be 34 years old at the end of that.
What are your thoughts, do you think that this is the true reason why he wants to leave, or may want to leave the club.

I'm pretty sure this is part of the reason. If it is I can understand Holt's point of view but Mcnally has to protect the finances of the club and sticking another year on could cost the club an extra million for a player who is quite old and may not play much. If it was the reason Holt should just get on with it, handing in a transfer request seems like a huge over reaction, he has 2 years on his contract and he should honour them. However I'm sure it has as much to do with money, in a previous interview his agent was asked this question to which he replied "well monies always involved" or words to that effect. Also comments such as "Grant loves the club and the fans have got to ask themselves why has Paul Lambert left? Why does Grant Holt want to leave?" appear very unhelpful. Basically the whole thing has been handled dreadfully and someone somewhere has cocked up.

Like I have said on another thread, I think the club could sit him down and come to an agreement on maybe the three year contract or a 2 year contract where he has the option of a third year, However I think it is worth the risk of a three year contract for him.

Maybe but I am certain there is more to it than just 1 year on his contract. I wouldn't trust anything his agent says. I would say he has been selective with what he has told the press and we certainly don't have the full story. The more Holt and his agent pop up in the press like this the harder it is to see all this been ironed out in a reasonable manner

he clearly wants more money as well as the extension. i totally agree with the club holding firm over this. he still has two years remaining on his current deal which he only recently signed. i believe its the 'more money' bit which has wound he and his agent up more than the extra year but why they can't wait 6 months and then renegotiate i'll never know. i think its becoming more and more clear that its his agent being a pain in the backside to be honest, especially given the amount of interviews he's been doing lately. i hope the club stand firm <ok>
