This made me smile from the bbc live updates:

    ...

64:25 Substitution, Aston Villa. Grant Holt replaces Matthew Lowton.

65:17 Foul by Grant Holt (Aston Villa).

    ...

88:36 Grant Holt (Aston Villa) has gone down, but that's a dive.

88:40 Booking Grant Holt (Aston Villa) is shown the yellow card.

They weren't all like that mate, far less than what some people's watery eyed nostalgia would try to have us believe. If we're being honest we didn't have that many of those barnstormers under him in the premiership at all, and most of the best fun under Lambert was in the two promotion seasons at lower levels where you could afford to take more risks in the knowledge you won't get punished 90% of the time.

Perhaps you are right Munky and we did have only a few barnstormers in his Premiership season but at least he tried to change things to win games, the players gave 100% and he wasn't given £25m to spend in the close season. How many barnstormers have we seen under Hughton? I am not anti Hughton and am realistic to accept that if he keeps us up he has a done a good job but I am old fashioned enough to think that football should also be an entertainment. I don't find the methods employed by Hughton, Allardyce or Pulis entertaining - even if they succeed. Lambert? - that's a different matter.

A game doesn't have to be a barnstormer to be entertaining.

That's the problem, it's not even close.
