What struck me Saturday most while watching Becchio was he was playin the same role as holt and, guess what, he took the same abuse from the defence and looked similarly isolated. BUT he worked hard. That's the key.

Some people say Holt has lost it a bit and isn't putting in te effort this year. Becchios performance proved it is the position that is hard to play, even when you put a lot of effort in.

Both of them up front together, you've got 2 very hard working forwards that can finally create a bit of space for eachother.

I can honestly say that no one who sits near me is a "Holt basher"

We all agree that we perform better when he plays.

    Still our most influential player.

Agreed, Beef, but to do this he has to drop Wes or one of either Johnson or Tettey.
As has been said countless times, Hughton seems hellbent on playing 2CDMs, so where is
any creativity and link up play going to come from?

Let's hope Holt's back responds to 4 days of currant bun and he's raring to go in a 4-4-2 when we play Everton - if Hughton is prepared to go with that formation, of course.

If we play one up top we are not likely to score too many unless one of the midfield has a great game. Personally I htink that Wes has gone off the boil a little bit and this has contributed to our creativity drying up. It is hard to fault the strikers when they are having so few chances.

I don't think that there is too much wrong with the team - we just need a little bit of luck or a moments creativity and when we get a goal or two I can see the confidence flooding back and us going on another decent run.

People abusing Holt should go and acquire a life - the bloke puts in a top shift every match.

You probably noticed he tweeted about first session of training done, with no mention of his back! It was probably a minor spasm on Saturday!

Maybe they've got wind of his house-buying activities in Carlisle, plus the fact that his family are relocating there for schooling purposes and are primed and ready to start yelling 'Judas, Judas' the next time he plays <yikes> <doh>

what about a 4-1-3-2 formation (or something similar)? i really don't like the 2DCMs when we are playing AT HOME to a lower half team.
that would accomodate wes and 2 strikers.

regarding the OP, yes it's tough putting a shift on your own, especially against someone as good as hangerland. if holt was fit and we played 2 up front, i'd have fancied them bullying senderos.but alas that didn't happen.

The holt injury is like the bassong injury.

    We literally can't risk him.

I'd like to see us try it. Tettey has been below par for weeks now, and Johnson is very disciplined at holding. Against clubs where we'd expect to have more possession, and them to settle for a point, then I think that would offer us a lot more going forward.

Totally agree - I think it would be good for the fans and the team's confidence if we could play a similar game as when we played Citeh. In some ways, I'd rather drop a point to Everton (maybe even get all 3!!!), than sit back and create very few opportunities.

Unfortunately I've heard too much opinion saying he's "Past it" because he hasn't been scoring goals.

I think Becchios performance on Saturday shows that lone role is a very tricky one, one that is fruitless

and, lets be clear, one that we should drop ASAP.

Hughton knows this as well as all of us.

not heard anything myself but there are always gonna be some who don't understand the role he plays both on and off the field who want to get a dig in. no doubt him buying a house and moving his kids back 'oop north' has led to meltdown with some fans too <doh>

4:1:3:2 is really the diamond is it not? Would we really want to give Leighton Baines the freedom of the touch line? If we do play the diamond, I'd be inclined to play Bennett on the right, with Whittaker behind him, and have Snodgrass central behind the strikers, and one of Pilkington or Surman on the left. I was waiting to see how CH was going to play his intended 4:4:2 on Saturday. Pity about Holty's injury.

robbie, i'd guess it would have been a straight 4-4-2 with hoolahan on the left. i don't personally want to see holt and becchio up front together - i think they are far too similar and would prefer to try kamara off holt/becchio if we do go two up top.
