Can someone enlighten me as to how on the 31st Jan 2012 Rangers put in an undisclosed fee for Grant Holt, then 2 weeks later go into administration, what were they going to buy him with? and if it had happened would Norwich now just be one of the outstanding creditors for Rangers, has football and the people who own these clubs gone completely mad?
They offered £1m knowing it would never be accepted. It was a desperate attempt to try and appease already angy fans, it failed because it was as transparent as a pair of clingfilm underpants.
Serious question Dev, are you laughing up your kilt that the 'Gers have gone into admin ? Or do you think that this might be the death knell for Scottish Football ?
Personally i'm laughing my cock off, it may be cutting off my own nose to spite my face but when you have had a prick like Sir David Murray flaunting his (apparent) wealth for years, and boasting that he'd spend a tenner for every fiver we spent then revenge is not only understandable, it's sweet. Rangers will not vanish completely...ever. But I for one hope to see them broke, having to start again from scratch in the 3rd division. A few years humiliation is all I ask, I think it's only fair.
Hes laughing but secretly knows it may be the death of football but his fenianry does not allow him to admit it.
But if this was to happen, why would you as a Celtic fan want to watch football again ? As it is the SPL is a farce with the same two teams year after year playing it out for 1st & 2nd, what would be the point of it now? Its not as if there's another team that can step up to the plate & compete against you ? If Rangers go down the leagues that would surely spell the end for the SPL.
Thing is, if there's no 'Old Firm' derby who is going to watch the SPL ? More importantly, what TV company is going to pay more than £1 for the TV rights ? Where would that leave Celtic then ? What us English cannot get our heads around is that it's either Celtic or Rangers in Scotland. Why is it that more Scots do not support their local team ? Is it purely a religion issue ?
Please don't drag a sensible conversation into the gutter, people may think we actually are all the same.
Most fans don't care a damn about religion. It's just intense dislike. TV money at the moment from sky is less than 3% of Celtic's total income so losing the TV contract will not be a major factor. Celtic fans may get bored, but Rangers will be back in the SPL in 4 or 5 years if they play their cards right. I can live with that.
Do you think I would stop watching Celtic if Rangers went down? Are Hearts, Dundee Utd and Aberdeen fans going to stop supporting their teams when they have abetter chance of finishing second or even winning a trophy? Maybe their support will increase because of the increased chance they will have of winning honours.
Fair enough Dev, would you like to see Celtic join the EPL ? Or do you think it's a complete non-starter and would prefer the Scots to have complete independance from us Sassanachs ? (spelling)
It's an old chestnut and I personally find talk of Celtic joing the English League a bit of a fantasy. Scottish football may not be as glamorous or competitive as many others but it's all we have so we'll have to just accept it for what it is. I personally like the blood and snotters aspect of Scottish football and it's better to be a big fish in a small pond than a minnow in an ocean.
The non old firm hatred of Rangers has totally increased the majority want Rangers relegated to div 3 which would happen to all other clubs in Rangers position . Personally I want them to stay in the spl and be like a wee toy we play with, Copenhagen win the Danish league every year by 20 points and have put in a couple of decent displays in the champions league . I Know you English love slating the standard of Scottish football , your taking the eye of your own game , the standard is getting worse every season , how many internationalist to Norwich have ??? Your basically a team of journey men that sit 9th in the premiership , that is why Celtic current team would be fine in the epl , proven by our show in Udinese when we played the then top Italian team off the park on their own ground
Why so lairy harry? There was nothing in this thread attacking you, so not sure why you've got all aggressive We've just been promoted from the championship and the year before that were in league 1 so we're hardly going to have any "internationalists" are we?
