Our think our problems still lie with the lack of a proper holding midfielder. Since Wright finished his loan we have not found a suitable replacement- Montrose, Payne, Frampton and Gregory were/are not suited to that specific role. I hope Robinson is. Last night how many times to Wycombe manage to break from their box to our box without a single challenge going in? This isnât a problem away from home as we have numbers back.
Their pace destroyed us. We have weston but one person isnt enough pace. Gregory is terrible. We need Vincelot now and a winger on loan. Not good enough at the moment.
If we aren't going to sign anyone I would rather recall Montrose because at least he had good games, Gregory was OK last week but that was only OK nothing special, he was awful and cost us the game last night and at least we know with Montrose that he may be mistake prone but with that comes some class and we played better when he was in the team.
I agree with that. Montrose is better but dont like frampton playing with a holding midfielder like montrose or gregory no pace at all. Could give dack a go or recall miller for some pace on the wing.
Wing is no problem for me, I like Miller though, had a dream he was recalled and he scored (bit strange) I would play Dack and Robinson at the moment rotating Dack with Lee. My midfield would be Whelpdale Dack/Lee Robinson Weston I thought Gregory may have something there but it turned out I was wrong, only thing that worries me is that MA rates him and that he has signed him a contract to the end of next season if I am right so we will still have him next season.
Don't think Montrose is the answer. he wasn't before. Does anyone know what Robinson's natural position is? Is he defensive midfield or general central?
While I agree Frampton is not the long term answer at least those gaping holes through the middle of our defence don't appear when he's on the pitch. We may just have to accept him into the team and grind out a 1-0 each week.
Yeah he was good last week but last night he did not really touch the ball other than when he made the mistake. I think we need to bring another midfielder in during the loan market, it is not about numbers it is simply because we have made a massive mistake bringing in Gregory.
I hear there's a very good defensive midfielder in the non-league playing for Kidderminster - his name's Danny Jackman. Sign him up MA - he'll solve our defensive midfield problems! Unbelievable that he was allowed to leave.
Yeah on a free aswell, he is the sort of player that we should be worried that he might leave not that we just want to give away.
Thinking of it now maybe it is better to play him as were stronger with him on the pitch, he is better than Gregory and don't lose the ball as much just needs to make sure he don't venture too much with the ball as he lost it when he did.
No I think you guys have got in wrong, it isn't a defensive midfielder we need but an attacking one. Last night we seemed in control for the first 45 minutes or so without creating any clear cut chances, it was only as we started to get desperate and pushing men forward that the gaps appeared and Wycombe punished us. If we had a more creative midfielder who could create more we could have scored when we were dominate and then had something to defend.
not sure i buy that argument completly BSG. Wycombe started taking control after about 35 minutes. bit early to be getting desperate and you cant expect to take the lead early in every game. That said i agree we offered nothing creative going forward so that something else that possible needs fixing
The problem is Allen has loaned Payne out when we should have kept him till the end of the season at least. Loaned Montrose out when he was playing well. Not given Jackman a fair chance. Two or three of these players were better than what we have now. Also Lee is not the player of last season. Allen jnr has lost form from the beginning of the season. I think Dack has to start featuring again. All is not lost though. I have a plan: score in the first 5 minutes, then we normally win.
