Holden relishing season run-in Thursday, April 18th 2019 It's the final five remaining for City, starting with their next test at home to Reading tomorrow (April 19th, 12pm KO). Assistant Head Coach Dean Holden is relishing the position City find themselves and Good Friday's clash with the Royals is just another challenge he believes the Robins can overcome. "It’s a brilliant time of the season now, five games in less than three weeks in front of is," he said. "It’s a position that we wanted to be in and as the season’s gone on we’ve become really good at putting the last game behind us and moving on quickly. "Two games in four days is tough physically for the players but they’ve proved this season they can meet the challenges and it’s a fantastic position to be in and it’s really, really exciting." Holden believes City's fluid attacking play has the ability to deal the damage as they go in search of a fourth unbeaten home game. Holden continued: "They [Reading] are a good team, going forward they’ve got some real pace, we’ve got to be on our guard every single game, there’s no question about that and that’s the only game we’re thinking about. "We’d like to think the players we’ve got at our disposal and some of the recent performances going forward that we can hurt them as well." And Holden has urged the supporters to arrive in BS3 early to get the atmosphere rocking in time for kick-off. He said: "I’m sure the fans will come to Ashton Gate on Friday with a real sense of optimism: we’re sixth in the league, there’s something to play for and it’s where every club wants to be. "We’d ask the fans to do what they’ve done all season, to try to get in early before the game, get the players feeling good about themselves in the warm-up and sing your hearts out for 90-plus minutes and see where it takes us." City v Reading is the penultimate home game of the scheduled season, with Derby County in BS3 on April 27th (3pm KO). https://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/holden-relishing-season-run-in/
Bristol City vs Reading preview please log in to view this image Korey Smith suffered an injury against Middlesbrough at the start of April Bristol City are set to be boosted by the return of midfielder Korey Smith for the visit of Reading in the Sky Bet Championship on Friday (kick-off 12pm). Smith suffered an injury in the second half of the win over Middlesbrough at the start of the month but has been training well and travelled with the squad to Aston Villa last week. Winger Callum O'Dowda has not featured since March 12 as he recovers from a knee injury but is closing in on a return. Frank Fielding remains sidelined but fellow goalkeeper Niki Maenpaa is "due back pretty soon" according to assistant head coach Dean Holden. Reading midfielder John Swift will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on his hip. Swift suffered the injury during the 2-1 victory over Preston at the end of March and had already missed three games before the operation. Forward Jon Dadi Bodvarsson has resumed training after a back injury but is unlikely to be ready to face Bristol City. Omar Richards (knee) is in the latter stages of his rehab while fellow defenders Paul McShane (Achilles) and John O'Shea (calf) are both out of the Easter weekend games. Opta stats Bristol City have lost eight of their last 10 league meetings with Reading (W2 D0 L8). It's another point towards the play offs. I can't see Derby winning today (famously last words) and anyhow it will come down to their visit here soon.
Ipswich.... Wigan..... Reading. Very poor results at home which will cost us the 6th playoff spot. Very disappointing after the away heroics against the top boys recently.
Watched most of the game on a dodgy stream. Positives: we hassled well and really looked up for it - always looking for the ball. Max made a good save in the first half too. Loads of effort all round. Negatives: the final balls in were poor. We passed and moved our way forward really well - brilliantly at times - then delivered an impossible ball at the end. Very frustrating. Also, some needless fouls were given away. Having said the above, credit to Reading. They had a game plan to shut up shop and hit on the break - which they did well. Also the referee ignored so many of Readings fouls - what is it with us and referees lately? At least we didn’t lose - despite their lowly position Reading haven’t been beaten recently and managed a draw vs Norwich too.
