Hold the ice! Harry Redknapp ready to forgive David Bentley and sign him to QPR 31 Jan 2013 10:25 Dumping a bucket of cold water over Harry live on TV effectively ended his Tottenham career, but relations have thawed and now QPR want Bentley Cold drinks: David Bentley, Peter Crouch, Roman Pavlyuchenko and Luka Modric celebrate qualifying for the Champions League in the Tottenham dressing room Cold drinks: David Bentley, Peter Crouch, Roman Pavlyuchenko and Luka Modric celebrate qualifying for the Champions League in the Tottenham dressing room QPR boss Harry Redknapp is ready to perform the biggest U-turn of the transfer market and sign Tottenham misfit David Bentley. Former England midfielder Bentley was made an outcast after famously dumping a bucket of ice water over Redknapp live on TV after Spurs had won at Manchester City three years ago to virtually clinch Champions League football. Redknapp admitted afterwards that there was no way back at the North London club for Bentley and he was barely given another look-in and was farmed out to West Ham and then to the football backwater of Russian club FC Rostov last season. Bentley, 28, a £15m signing in 2008, now finds himself set to move to QPR for an unlikely reunion and it remains to be seen whether he will tip another bucket of water over Redknapp if QPR stay up. Ex-Blackburn midfielder Bentley even admitted in a Mirror Sport interview earlier this season that the ice bucket incident was the end of his Spurs career. Bentley said back in September: "It was all good natured. But he definitely didn't see it like that. It was a celebration and nothing more. "That season, I'd played 20 games up until that point and we got into the Champions League. I'd started 15 games in a row and, even though I didn't start that game, we were just celebrating a brilliant achievement. "He never said anything to my face about it - he didn't really ever say much to me at all - but I knew I was always up against it after that. I hardly got another look-in." Tottenham multi-purchase? Harry Redknapp is also reportedly swooping into White Hart Lane to grab Jermaine Jenas and Andros Townsend according to reports, writes MirrorFootball. The Daily Mail reports that Jenas and David Bentley are out of contract at the end of the season and will sign short-term deals, while Townsend will join Rangers on loan. Fit for purpose? Tottenham's Jermaine Jenas Fit for purpose? Tottenham's Jermaine Jenas The Mail quotes Redknapp as saying today: "It was difficult for David at Tottenham as I had Aaron Lennon and Gareth Bale. "It was a bit difficult for him to get in the side but we will have to wait and see. I am not sure what is happening with that one yet today. "If Jenas is fit, he is a good player. We will have to wait and see."
Not a popular view Stamford but I've got to agree with you. He was a quality player at Arsenal, Blackburn and at times, Spurs. If he's up for reviving his career then it would be very good, plus now we've signed Samba and are trying to get Crouch in, we need someone who can deliver crosses and from deadball situations and he fits the bill there. All depends on his attitude though. Although SSN have just said that any deals for Tottenham players (Jenas, Bentely & Townsend) are off at the moment, we pulled out of the Townsend deal, not the other way round. Although they could be revisited later on???
