Since 14th February and beyond we have had a daily amount of drivel from the mainstream media and a complete and total lack of governance from "the powers that be" (read SFA). Now we have Mr McCoist issuing what is clearly another veiled threat towards the "punishments" his club have been given. Punishment, so far, has consisted of a fine of a paltry £160k. No more, No less. The 10 point deduction was NOT a punishment, but a penalty for a club going into administration. The loss of European games or entry into European competion for 3 years is also not a punishment, but a penalty for any club who cannot provide 3 years of audited accounts. The vote by the SPL Chairmen (and in the main by the the fans of those clubs) to refuse direct entry into the SPL next season for any future Newco is not only correct in my opinion, but should have never have taken place at all. Again, this is not a punishment. I have listened to many, and to many phone-ins, etc, etc, etc., and it is truly amazing that fans of the old club Rangers do not believe they have done anything wrong. And, in fact, they want revenge for "what has happened to them". What has happened to them is clear for all to see - many years of ill advised non-governance and overspending by the previous incumbents have brought about their downfall. They all whooped and loved it when one of the previous owners infamously used the statement "for every £5 "they" spend - we will spend £10". The fact is they have lived outwith their means for several years and are now paying the price for this. Why oh why do they really think they are being hard done to? I think that the real heads of power in Scottish football should get this sorted out immediately and stop pandering to the media and the incumbents at the SFA. Rules should be simple - Immediate suspension for (at least ) 1 year, then re-apply for membership consideration. We all know that the impending result is due from the BTC and that police investigations are ongoing in regard to fraud, etc. The likelyhood is the "dual contracts issue" will find the Oldco guilty. All reasonable people know that and, with this in mind, why are the "powers that be" trying to rush this through. There is no doubt, in my opinion, that they will be found guilty of this and, perhaps, even more. Forget all the smokescreens and the mainstream media trying to sell their newspapers, that's only regular business. The fact is that once it all comes out in the wash, the old Rangers FC will be stripped of all titles/trophies they have won during the relative periods. Once this happens a huge queue will emerge to pursue the Oldco for loss of revenue (especially in regard to European entitlements/entry). Now we have the "top boy" issuing another veiled threat in regard to "social disorder" if the Newco is not accepted? Did the "top boy" warn the good people of Manchester? No, I think not. For the good of society (never mind Scottish football) get the real facts out and stop pandering and gerrymandering. The time has come for all who have an interest in Scottish football and a desire to see it flourish to stand up and be counted. Don't let any of the bullies down Ibrox way or at Hampden (formerly Park Gardens) get away with this. They got away with it for over 100years by a signing policy which was racist and sectarian - and this was allowed at Park Gardens. Let them rot in hell - they are not needed in Scottish football or, indeed, Scottish society.
The long and the short of it is that the BTC is irrelevant now. Rangers are dead. The only punishment they can possibly face is to have trophies awarded removed. If they had survived, the punishment for the cheating last season should have been automatic relegation to the bottom of the pile. Punishment for the cheating over the last 11 years should be suspension for a year....that can't happen now. The new clubs application should be judged on its merits.....
Sorry Rebelbhoy but the the result of the BTC will be VERY relevant. As much as the oldco is dead the authorities must ensure that all the fraudulent deals/payments/whatever must be noted and the incumbents punished. Yes, any newco application should be judged on it's "merits" but with all the flotsam and jetsam still attached to the oldco (they are not oficially liquidated, as yet) it is high time things moved along. Don't be surprised if people are jailed because of this fiasco. It is my considered opinion that you really haven't heard nothing yet - but the stuff will hit the fan before long. The "powers that be" know this also and are urgently scurrying to try and appease the hordes that masquerade as football fans down govan way. There are many, many miles and "exclusives" still to come. Don't be too surprised if there are a few "tumbles" from Hampden in the next few weeks, and, once Strathclyde's finest have finished, a few in cuffs prior to court proceedings.
In footballing terms the BTC is not relevant. Rangers cannot be punished beyond relieving them of illl gotten trophies. This thread is about the perceived punishments for the club. There haven't been any. If you want to talk about individual punishments, then we can do that too. If you want to talk about the scope of a footballing investigation, then I can tell you with absolute certainty that there is not the will to get to the very bottom of this. The dual contracts during the EBT era will be as far as it will go. 1986-2000 will remain untouched.
Reb, you are missing my point. They are NOT, as yet, in liquidation., but in administration. Everything is still relevant whilst so. What I am saying is that each and everyone are dragging their heels to try and ensure the survival of a newco playing at Ibrokes next season - in whatever form. The rules/regulations/penalties/sanctions, whatever should be hammered out now. Long before trying to allow back door entry to whatever league or competition. The whole thing stinks. If this had been any other club they would have been consigned to the bowels of history by now. In fact, had it been Celtic I am quite sure it would have put to bed many months ago. It is quite embarassing to consider myself a lifelong fan of a Scottish football club and to reticently accept this. Like I say, it is high time we (as Celtic fans and fans of Scottish football) put some pressure on the "authority". I am quite sure that the silence from paradise in recent weeks will soon reach it's crescendo. Celtic have played a pretty clever game here by saying virtually nothing (except from the usual club statement yesterday, which obviously provoked Mr McCoist to issue his veiled threat) but you can expect the real statement from Celtic once we all know the truths and where this is headed (or tries at deflection). Celtic will NOT accept any further interference from Regan, Doncaster, et al. Now is the time. HAIL HAIL.
I read up to this sentence, then realised that the OP can not comprehend simple English words. If a penalty is not a punishment, then what is it?
and you are missing my point. You cannot impose footballing sanctions where there is no football club. Rangers have already been "consigned to the bowels of history". They are no longer a football club.
not sure i agree hoops 10 point penalty is a punishment - just as a penalty on the field is a punishment the fine is a punishment also but the european issue is not - its a consequence as is the rest of mccoists ill thought out statement
All the sevco 5088 need to do is start again from the 3rd division, no punishments Rangers suffered the ultimate punishment already they are dead. They are causing themself more suffering because they aren't very clever and it hasn't sunk in yet.
The deal has already been done, Newco Rangers will be in SFL1 or SPL2 (which is the same thing). I agree regarding the punishments, apart from a fine Rangers have not been punished yet, the 10 point deduction is not a punishment it was a consequence of going into administration.
Yep, Div1 or an SPL2 with Rangers and other SFL clubs by invitation. What is not clear is if the "significant punishment" Regan was talkin of only applied if we were voted into the SPL or if it will be applied if we are in SFL1/SPL2.
I think (Only my suspicion mind you) that Green has accepted the fact that punishments for Rangers are inevitable, he cannot claim to be the same club as Oldco without accepting that sanctions are unavoidable. To be honest i'm getting tired of the whole thing and I wish they would just put Rangers into SFL1/SPL2 and let's get back to the football. Let's worry about punishments when we have a league worthy of the name, Rangers are'nt going anywhere so as long as these sanctions are in place before the season kicks off I am not at all concerned.
I don't understand why any new club would be punished. It's new - what's it done to deserve punishment?
I agree Sevco should not be punished for the sins of Rangers. Rangers should be stripped of all success this century and their achievemnts up to then should be sectioned off and not available to be transferred to any other team. Sevco should be treated as any other team and when they have three years annual accounts they should be allowed to apply for SFL Div 3. Everyone should then be happy as fair play and integrity would prevail and the the guiding principle of cheating not paying would be up held. If the authorities decided to jail David Murray for ten years for every year Whyte serves, and if there are others involved and they too are locked up all the better.
