In the January transfer window I was one amung many that believed this guy would have been great cover for Bale and Lennon before they got injured, harry changed formation, played Luka on the left and our form dropped off. Now he has gone to QPR do we feel we have missed out? Or is the fact only QPR were in for him, an indication that he is not of the calibre we require? As an aside, I think Mark Hughes is doing a good job to build a team to finish in the Fulham/Stoke/Norwich/Swansea area of the table. PS how do create Polls?
Yeah, seems like a missed opportunity to me but I say that a lot and most of them turn out ****e As for polls, you have to do it when you create the thread. There's an option to add a poll down the bottom, I think. This thread's fine without one anyway, polls can kill discussion sometimes.
Cheers Yid I felt we missed out last year on Ba - Who had scored 7goals I think for a poor west ham team. Went to Newcastle for free, and for 6months was awsome. Would have been better than Saha!
I think on a free, Hoilett would have been a good signing for us, but im not sure at this point in his career he would have wanted to be understudy to Lennon or Bale which he would have been. Also the fact he has gone to QPR probably means he was demanding a pretty high salary.
they could be pretty handy next season Zamorra - Cisse - Johnson SWP - Taraabt - Hoillet Goals shouldn't be a problem at least.
He won't be free exactly, as they'll have to pay a fee decided by a tribunal, but he'll be well worth the relatively small amount that they do pay. Once his contract ran out though, I don't think that we were ever going to sign him. He went to the club that offered him the best overall deal, paying him a fairly substantial amount and guaranteeing him a starting place. I'm sure that working with Hughes again was an added bonus, too. Good luck to him. Can't fault him for it.
He looked very good in an awful Blackburn team. That doesn't tell you much. Added to the fact that he probably wanted to join a team where he was guaranteed first team football, and that he wouldn't be able to oust Lennon or Bale. Also, we should be looking at either moving Pienaar along and bringing in new players or giving him some game time. Shifting deadwood has to be a priority right now. The squad is good enough.
I'm not convinced that the squad is quite good enough yet, but we need to move on various people in order to make room for any new arrivals. Dos Santos may hang around until after the Olympics, so let's hope he boosts his price with a good one. Pienaar could still do a job for us, but he needs to commit to something, one way or the other. Bassong and Gallas seem to be surplus to requirements, so they also join Bentley and Jenas on the exit list. We need to bring in at least two strikers, as we're very short up top, in every sense I guess, as Defoe's our only out and out frontman. Back-up for wingers is also an issue, unless we decide to keep what we've got, which could be extremely risky.
Pienaar I expect will be off to Everton as thats his club, its were he is most settled. What about Dos Santos? as you mention him boosting his price yet from what I gather he has rejected moves in the past, he doesn't seem to want to leave! If we sign Ade, we still need a second striker, Defoe won't hang around being a bench warmer yet he could be used in a 4-3-3, i'm just interested to see if avb is going to use the same style he used at porto and tried to use at chelsea.
Dos Santos only seems to want to go to Spain. There was supposedly a deal that was virtually done and he left the Mexico Olympic squad to tie it up, but it seemed to disappear, for some reason. Hopefully he'll go soon, as he's in the last year of his contract. I'd expect Pienaar to go too, but I'm not sure Everton can afford him. There's some rumours floating around that they're going to sell Heitinga to fund the deal, but time will tell if they have any substance.
No, not a missed opportunity. He's got himself into a first team on a regular basis, so thats what he'll be looking for. I've no idea why people thought he'd be happy as Lennon cover. With QPR being the best club interested in him, says enough for me.
