I believe Jack Hobbs has been fairly vocal (in Nottingham anyway) about his wish to stay with Forest. If we are to believe what we read, it seems that he is on his way to Brighton or somewhere similar. No doubt when/if he moves, it will be his dream move.

For what it is worth, I watched the Shane Long interview on YouTube yesterday night and I thought he was very diplomatic in his reaction to a similar line of questioning. Certainly no 'badge kissing' session.

Did you expect Hobbs to tell the Forest fans his 6 months there is just a stop gap until something better comes along?

Come on now, you used to troll so much better than this

I hate player interviews. They are trained to say certain things. Every player just gives the same soundbites and are positive about the situation, regardless of what it is.

Well Long went from saying he had no interest in leaving and was looking forward to working with the new Head Coach, to saying that a move to Hull was inevitable and was playing on the back of his mind. All players are going to do it.

Plus the fact Hobbs has been there about 6 months and obviously enjoys it there..... Shane Long hasn't been here 5 minutes, so he's hardly going to be jumping around telling everyone how much he loves the club when he has no feeling for it yet.

So if Jelavic had said he would have preferred to move to Newcastle in his first interview as a Tiger, you would have been totally fine with it?

Its like the others have said, you say exactly what your new set of fans want to hear while closing your account positively with your former club, good example is how Mata talked about his move to Man U.

You only kiss the badge if your a long time fan of the club your playing for.

    kissthebadge_smith1.jpg

"Alan Smith is a boyhood Leeds United fan and started his career with his local club. He scored against Liverpool on his debut as an 18-year-old and spent six seasons in their first team. When Leeds were relegated at the end of the 2003-2004 season, a tearful Smith was the last to leave the pitch, commiserating with the singing Leeds fans.

Leeds needed the money so he would be sold but where would he go? In an earlier interview he claimed there was only one club he would never play for: Manchester United…

Eighteen days after Leeds were relegated, Smith signed for Manchester United.

“There is a cross-Pennine divide between the clubs and the fans but from a personal point of view, Manchester United was the club I wanted to come to,” he said. “A couple of clubs abroad were interested but I wasn’t ready for that sort of move. Liverpool, Newcastle, Middlesbrough and Glasgow Rangers as well, but they were irrelevant to me. I wanted to come here.”

A few months in to his Manchester United he spoke of his delight at signing for the club.

“I have signed for Manchester United for the next five years and hopefully I will be here longer than that,” he said. “I’m loving every minute of my time here.”

Smith spent three seasons at Man United, winning the Premier League and Carling Cup, before being sold to Newcastle. He kissed their badge too.

After four and half years in the North East, scoring no goals, Smith joined League One side MK Dons on loan."

    What a ****!

That's football, fans are idiots and over think everything so you pretty much have to tell them what they expect/want to hear. But at the end of the day its your career and you do what's best for you.

The implication your making is that he shouldn't have signed for United out of respect to the Leeds fans and from what he has said, if that's the case then the Leeds fans are selfishly holding back his career because of their perceived rivalry with another club, which is wrong, they should want a local lad to reach his potential.

Loyalty is great in football, but it shouldn't be expected, players should always do whats best for them because the fans won't think twice about turning on them when their performances drop or their heading to the end of their career.

Long as they do their best and play their heart out for their current club, I don't see a problem.

Spot on, its all you can ask for.

Fans wouldn't stick by a player if they hit a run of poor form, they'd call for them to be dropped and eventually sold. So players should look after themselves first and do whats best for them as long as they put 100% in when they walk onto the pitch.

Sky just said we have made a bid. Liam Moore smashed into the post and broke some ribs so we need a centre half

We did cut all costs in the summer but the owners are now prepared within reason to spend to give us the final push. I'm pretty sure Nigel would know what you wanted for him and would have offered that else it's pointless. There's too much bad blood between the clubs so making a bid to test the water would not be a good idea.

As opposed to rugby fans who are infinitely more intelligent? Football fans aren't thick, and players shouldn't treat them like they are. Smith could have avoided looking like a **** by choosing his words more carefully. I guess that's why player interviews are so boring now, because players have learnt that their words WILL come back to haunt them.

We accepted £1m from Forest and Reading and Wigan have apparently bid the same, so I'd assume you'd match that.
