Yep. Saw that on the news just now. The thing is, they are basically saying that existing workers in Swansea will have to commute at their own cost. Effectively a pay cut of thousands per year. The news article right after it was about the new 'City Deal' for Cardiff and the Valleys with investment going in from the Welsh Assembly, Local Authorities, and Central Government.

I like Cardiff apart from the football team, and am not against spending money there but there has to be fairness. We are the second city and I just wonder whether anyone from the Welsh Assembly taken a look at Swansea City centre lately? It's a ****ing disgrace - a throwback to the post-war school of chuck-em-up architecture. Absolutely shameful. Where are our AMs?

[EDIT: Third item on the news - Newport has just opened a new shopping development that will take the money it generates in its city centre well past that of Swansea (shouldn't be hard). We are rapidly turning into a backwater and you have to blame the politicians.]

Mixed feelings on that. Aren't they just dodging tax? We criticise Facebook and Starbucks, and rightly so. I'm also a massive supporter of small business, owning one myself. But the law needs to be changed to catch the big boys. Following their example isn't the answer.

I understand that they are doing it in an attempt to force the Government to act and stop the "legal" migration of taxable profit/earnings overseas.

Well if it's a stunt then good on them. My guess is HMRC will jump all over them eventually - they are happy to do that with small businesses but **** their pants when dealing with the really big culprits.

What have they got to lose , their highlighting the fact the "big " businesses can do the **** they want with tacit agreement by the HMRC ,the little man pays because HMRC have the will and desire to pursue them knowing they haven't the financial clout to employ lawyers who are expert at tax dodging .

Like I said Matt, as long as they are merely highlighting the problem, not actually dodging tax then great. Two wrongs can't make a right.
