Are we about to be making a Huge record breaking signing on the eve of our return to the Premiership? I clearly remember finishing work as a 16yo Saints fanatic & seeing the 'Evening Echo' headlines fri 19th August 1966 saying that we had signed RON DAVIES for a club record fee of £55,000 from Norwich. It was unbelievable not only because he was a current international but it was, also the day BEFORE we were about to make our Div 1 debut. This must have been the equivalent to £10m today... Point im making is that truly outstanding players sometimes dont need to have weeks blending in with squads etc. Iknow i'll probably get slated by people saying that it was different then but you never know. By the way we played our 1st game against MANCHESTER CITY Champions div2...1-1
If you pay 35 million for Andy Carroll then a modern day Ron Davies would be off the scale... you might have to win euro millions
