Hillsborough match commander David Duckenfield charged with manslaughter by gross negligence of 95 people. Sir Norman Bettison, ex Merseyside Chief Constable, South Yorkshire inspector in 1989, charged with 4 counts of misconduct in public office. http://news.sky.com/story/hillsborough-criminal-charges-against-six-people-10929606
I can't see any of them getting a fair trial given what details have already been put out into the public domain. They probably all deserve what they have coming to them for trying to cover it all up.
"It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.”
They're already warning about the reporting on this... CPS @cpsuk Criminal proceedings now live – please avoid reporting, commentary or sharing of information that may be prejudicial. For anyone wondering why there's 95 manslaughter charges, rather than 96 it's because one died of his injuries four years after the event and only people who died within one year can be included.
It'll never end until the families are satisfied and unfortunately they never will be, they've spent so much of their lives dedicated to this cause that its unlikely they will ever just accept its over. That is in no way a criticism, they've suffered a huge injustice and its human instinct to fight for your loved ones, but I can't see the day that they accept justice has been done.
Over the years there has been loads reported. I just cannot fathom how they can select a jury that won't have seen any of the detail.
David Conn in the Guardian has written about this extensively and accurately for years. Worth searching for if anyone is still in the dark. It changed many of my preconceptions about what happened, and why. I have lived in Liverpool, knew a Scouser who was there in the tunnel that day, and still, until I read more in the last couple of years couldn't completely dismiss the 'no smoke without fire' view put out by the Sun etc I am not ashamed to say that now my kids are older and go to matches without me sometimes, I wept after reading about what happened to other people's kids on that day. Never again.
I've probably said it in here before. But the first Taylor Report set out a pretty accurate and coruscating account of events and identified many of the chief suspects - albeit that at that time, a few weeks after the tragedy, there was no knowledge of the extensive tampering of evidence by SYP and WMP. It's testament to the power of the media at that time that the "they were all pissed up scousers that bought it upon themselves" narrative still persists amongst some to this day.
Justice needs to be done no matter how long its taken, they were still putting 90+ year old SS Auschwitz Guards on trial in Germany up to last year, hope Grenfell prosecutions are swifter though.
Who for? I'm guessing for the Mothers, Fathers, Sons, Daughters, Brothers,, Sisters, Aunts, Uncles, Nephews, Nieces, Grans, Grandads & friends of the victims along with those who survived yet witnessed their fellow supporters being crushed beneath them there will be no end, no matter what a court of law decides.
