Looking for advice and help here, has anyone done the high cup nick walk from Cow green to Dufton, would like to know if it is challenging or moderate, my knees are not 100%with arthritis so steep gradients are avoided where possible, any advice would be appreciated
ive done the walk from Dufton to High Cup Nic which was a very good walk. its in the book Walking in the North Pennines by Paddy Dillon.
The book is at the caravan at the moment but i think its about 11 miles if my memory serves me correctly.
Hoping my son will drop me and the wife off at Cow green and pick me up (if I make it) later on in the day at Dufton
Yes I did it a while ago in my 50s and found it fairly easy going although you will be going down hill at high cup nick and might be hard on the knees but if you pick a route less steep ,( don't go into the nick itself) you should be fine. Great walk by the way and definitely the easiest way to do it. Good luck and enjoy your day.
Dufton Yeah my wife’s cousin lived in Dufton hall infact they owened all the old buildings They sold up and built a home called quarry bank just on the way out of the village We used to go over there in the 70s and stay weekends in the hall there was a canny pub in the village However not well stocked had some good times there Theve now sold up and moved to Penrith
Cheers for that marra, isn’t going down into the nick the reason people do the Walk?,what are the dangers and pitfalls of going in the nick?
no not really .I think it more of the views from the top and looking into it, although some might prefer the climb out of it going the other way. Have a look at the contours on OS mapping and you will see what I.mean. personally I think you are going the right way.
