Higgs on Campbell issues

Makes for an interesting read, with the chairman’s view on this. Perhaps Buckle isn't the one to blame during this situation? I once had massive respect for Stuart Campbell, but if he is expecting more than this club can afford, he should leave and do so now. He, of all people, should know better than that. Goodbye Stuart Campbell, thanks for the memories and all, but you must leave now.

So, do we owe our apologies to Mr Buckle for this one? Probably, yes. The guy is still a bellend though, but perhaps we can let him get on with his **** behind the scenes. It is funny how Campbell was here when the attitude was brewing last season, and seems to be a problem this season to, so perhaps with him out of the way, it may make things in the dressing room that more positive?

Have also just finished reading Mr Higgs appraisal of the situation and if all that is stated is true then I think Higgs and Buckle should be applauded for their stance for our club. It looks as tho SC has used his good standing with the fans to try and get an improved contract etc hoping that we, the fans back him and put pressure on the manager and board - which in all fairness is exactly what has happened. Now I don't blame SC for trying to get an improved contract etc, but he must realise that he is still on Div 1 wages, and thus must be one of the highest earners at our club. Given that he is now 33 and even his most stauch supporters can see that his legs are beggining to "go" - he must realise that an improved long term playing contract is not within the remit of this club. I for one am a little bit dissapointed that he has tried to wring more money out of the club - one that he so openly says is close to his heart etc, with an outside possibility that it could help to lead us to financial ruin. If all that is stated is true then I think it is time for him to move on - thanks SC - but no-one is bigger than the club, hope you find a club somewhere out there who will give you a 2 year contract, and if you ever come back to the mem I'm sure you will be given a decent reception!

Well I've read both the articles on the threads above and I'm just wondering if Campbell has been properly advised by his agent. If his agent has been giving him bad advise then that could be where the problem lies. However if the situation is as Higgs says then Campbell has been rather stupid and that is a slap in the face to the club.

I don't buy into all this 'bad advice' nonsense. These people are adults and should be able to make decisions about their futures and their working lives themselves.

If somebody came up to me and 'advised' me that I should demand a pay rise from my boss or give him an ultimatum, it wouldn't be the type of 'advice' that I'd listen to.

Ok, some footballers aren't the sharpest tools in the box, but Cambs is 33 and doesn't appear to be in the Rooney category when it comes to brainpower.

I just don't know who to believe in this particular saga. Bag of hot air Buckle or loyal servant to the Gas Campbell?

Sometimes the use of language gets in the way of the truth. Campbell says he was not offered a contract to coach. Is it possible that the coaching option was discussed but not agreed to the point of a formal offer i.e. a contract placed on the table. Then every one could be tellng the truth!

I'm sure the coaching offer was mentioned in the press before the season started.

Campbell really needs to go to another club before he does any more damage.

I have to change my stance on this as i think SC has been advised badly and tried to use the papers and fans to further contract negotiations.

If this is true which i think it is the chairman wouldn't have come out to try and put everyone straight on the facts.

its all been dealt with now. all parties got together (2 weeks late) and ironed everything out.

if i had to pick a side i would still pick cams. something dont add up from higgs. higgs was obviously going to back buckle. he has more investment in buckle! in the real world if a player went to the press and slated his club with lies, he would be fined and gone and not had a meeting today for clear the air talks which ended happily. me thinks cams was telling the truth but how cams has gone about it was wrong going to the press.

sapphire is right. reading cams, bucks and higgs words on this, higgs said there was discussions in the summer about a coaching role, a 2 year contract with the 2nd year being coaching and not playing. cams said he wants to play for rovers and not coach yet. his priority was to play. higgs then said discussions ended at that point as all parties happy with this. so no contract was actually offered. it was only discussions. simples.
as cams playing contract runs out end of this season, being 33, he would obviously be anxious to start contract talks. i read somewhere before that our players have in their contracts 10% relegation wage drop. cams has dropped his wages due to relegation. he is asking in his new contract that a wage rise be added if promotion happens. whats wrong with that?? this will be in the majority of players contracts.
we all know what type of manager buckle is, an arrogant twat. you can just imagine buckle initial reaction when he got an email from cams agent demanding a contract for cams to start happening. buckle is not the sort of person who likes being told what to do. so instead of actually negotiating with cams agent he just replied on the lines of wont be held tp ransom and will circulate his name to clubs.

anyway, its all been sorted now so lets move on.

hopefully cams will still get support from the fans and not jeered. if all of this ends up being his mistake, this would be his 1st mistake in 7 years. surely after just 1 mistake which only mistake i can see is him going via the press, he dont deserve to be jeered!
