Incoming Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink is urging Roman Abramovich to swallow his pride bring sacked Ray Wilkins back to Stamford Bridge. Wilkins' shock departure last October is widely accepted as one of the key factors in the Blues' mid-season slump that ultimately derailed their title bid and sealed Carlo Ancelotti's exit last month. Former England captain Wilkins has a row with Abramovich and chief executive Ron Gourlay about Ancelotti's tactical approach. Wilkins was sacked in humiliating circumstances as he was called away from the touchline during a reserve game to be fired. That sparked a lengthy legal wrangle until a compensation package was agreed and Wilkins severed ties on his three-decade association with the Blues. But Hiddink worked with Wilkins during his previous spell at Stamford Bridge and is keen to have him back at the club if, as expected, he is appointed as the new manager later this week. The Dutchman will ask Abramovich to approve a move to bring Wilkins back. He believes Wilkins would help him win over the dressing room quickly and wants to reassemble the backroom staff that helped him win the FA Cup during his previous four-month reign at Chelsea. Wilkins, currently nurturing his fledgling TV career, would not be a certainty to take up the post even if Abramovich did offer an olive branch.
I think Ray being the person he is would go back & would not hold a grudge, I'd like him to be back working with Guus Incidentally I think Ray has been excellent on Sky too
Agree sherri on Sky wilkins is unbaised even when commentating on chelsea , if a team or player is playing good or bad he will say so. On the other hand Alan Smith should not be allowed to comment tate on the London clubs especially chelsea in particular , he is so baised its unfunny !
