No attempt at wumming or anything here. Just wondering more than anything. Last I heard these morons were talking about suing for the 'epic swindle' they suffered ( bit rich considering what they did to Liverpool ). Are they still pursuing this or have they decided to **** off and die? If so does it concern anyone or would you expect them to be laughed out of court like they should be?
No need man, I am genuinely interested. I had forgot about them until a few mins ago and remembered they were acting like a bunch of kids after NESV bought LFC.
Not very funny Bow, not very funny at all. Seriously though, thats a quote. In October 2010 the Fenway Sports Group took over Liverpool F.C., which at the time was the most successful club in the history of British football. As of May 2011. Tom Hicks and George N. Gillett, Jr. announced that they would sue for at least $1.6 billion for the "epic swindle" they suffered.
Last I heard, the only way they could sue would be in the US courts. UK courts overruled them saying whatever they did in the US had no jurisdiction in this country, so they gave up. Hicks has recently had to sell some of his other ventures as well as far as I know.
It's over. They were prevented from sueing in the U.S. by the High Court in London and told there was no case they could take in England.
The US courts weren't happy with them anyway for being "misleading" over the UK ruling. And that was in Hicks' home state.
Hicks & Gillette are a pair of con men, pure and simple..They bought the club on empty promises and lies. They got what they deserved. They played people off against each other, to cover there own greed. They got nothing, and should count themselves lucky to get that much.
I made this point before,The thing I'm disappointed about is Hicks didn't end up in prison for contempt of court...something he was indeed threatened with.
Its fk off to them, if we were dealing with US courts and Lawyers I honestly would feel some anxiety. But not in England. **** you H&G
It was RBS that put the noose around Hicks' neck. They insisted that he appoint Martin Broughton,if he didn't he didn't get that extension.Martin Broughton recieved a legal binding document called a contract of employment which stated his duties ie He and he alone could sell the club and Hicks was not allowed in any way block a sale.Hicks could not interfere with a majority decision on a sale ie the board of directors which voted in favour of the sale to FSG.Hicks was in breach of that contract of employment.Martin Broughton followed that contract of employment to the letter. It was that contract of employment that ensured that Hicks could not win in an English court.
It didn't end all bad for Tom Hicks. aside from having his hockey team and his football team sold from under him he still owns the parking lot surrounding the Texas Rangers stadium which he charges fans extortionate amounts to park to watch games and he has just made $144m selling Latrobe Specialty Metals... oh and he still has the biggest house in texas Gillett... meh. I don't know what he's up to
A vile pair of human beings who should, and rightly so, been totally bankrupted by their actions. Don't mess with Scousers, or the English legal system!!!!
