There's work to be done. The defense needs sorting to accommodate our new style. Cech needs to sort a couple things out possibly. We need a right back who can defend.

what do supporters think of the very high line the chelsea defence held - thought it was dangerous against a team that breaks so quickly - thoughts please and credit to both teams for a very enjoyable game

Our defense, in particular our CBs, aren't the right type for it. We've spent so long with a deeper line and defense-first mentality that the change is causing issues. The deeper line allowed the backs to get forward because there was less space to get in behind. It's not so bad against lesser teams, but a RvP will exploit it as happened today.

Happy as Larry Rev! I never let things get to me! It's all about the future, not the past! Enjoy your sojourn in the sun! Its a compliment to Chelsea that you think you've all died and gone to heaven!

It's clear the style of football, the defending line at halfway is down to the owner not the manager. It won't change and if the team struggle with it the owner will get a new manager.

Yep. it's crystal clear. Because Abramovich takes training every morning in his tracksuit. He is the defensive coach and leaves offense to his girlfriend Dasha but his children take it turns to pick the side on alternate Saturdays; unless it is Roman's birthday; then he picks the side himself

The saying "Can't teach an old dog new tricks" springs to mind... Anyone notice we seem to be playing smoother footy with the youngster and we haven't lost with them in the side yet <whistle>.

Mikel's a brilliant player but with him in the line up it's not going to be attractive fitba, I have a brilliant suggestion - swap Mikel and Luiz! Mikel as a CB, Luiz as the DM

    One word...naive.

Arsenal's team look very average to me but what they do have is pace up front and a hell of a player in form in RVP. Lets play a high line and ship 5 at home then!! Frankly embarrasing. To think we had the best defence in the league last year.

Least we could blame the ref last week.

Chelsea have been playing anti football for so long now, that there defence cannot cope with a more attacking style. For years the Chelsea defence has been guarded by a negative midfield player, like Makelele and more recently Mikel, but now they don't have that, and the likes of Terry, Luiz, Ivanovic, Bosingwa and even Cole are being made to look like rabbit's in headlights, when they come up against world class opposition.

Chelsea's general play with thr ball still looks impressive, but when the opposition has the ball they always look voulnerable. They went to Old Trafford and attacked, and found themselves 3-0 down by half time, then saturday they tried to play Arsenal at there own game, and they were ripped apart.

Chelsea have tried the we will score more than you aproach this season, and whilst it works against weaker opposition, when you come up against one of the top sides, you get torn to shreds. Chelsea are a team who's success has been built on negative football, so AVB has come in and tried to change the whole philosophy of players who have been playing the same way for years.

It will take AVB along time to get this Chelsea side up to the standard of his Porto side, and playing in the same way. One thing is for sure, he will need to bring in some new defenders, who can actually run and defend, as the likes of Terry and Ivanovic are to slow, whilst Bosingwa and Luiz may have the pace, but they have no idea about basic defending:biggrin:

You are verging on making some good points but ruin it with comments like 'anti football'. Is that the same anti football that resulted in us having the highest ever points total in a P.L season or the same 'anti football' that meant we scored 103 goals on the way to the double not 18 months ago.

There are changes a foot and it will take time to get it right but the United and Arsenal games were freaks. We pretty much outplayed United and yet lost due to (in the most part) off side goals and poor finishing from our part. You can't account for that like you can't account for Terry's slip at the weekend, their goalie staying on the pitch and a dodgy ref at QPR. Our luck will change and then so will the results.

That said, we are miles off from challenging for the title as it stands.

Yes, AVB's had a trruly dreadful start; third in the Prem, top of CL group, into the QFs of the Carling.

The players are adapting awfully to the new system
