Akinfenwa for me big strong and scored goals also brought others into play which is why cody scored loads
In reality, I don't think that was anything wrong with the players that Hess brought in. He has a very good eye for talent. What he didn't have was the ability to bond this talent and motivate it into a side with real backbone and commitment. MA has not brought in anyone that Hess could not have. However......MA is a far better manager of those given resources.
Cody Mac, I would still like to see a good striker brought in, Bayo is another one still scoring goals.
The more I think about this the more pointless a question it becomes. The stand out players from 2 years ago would be Akinfenwa, Macdonald and Lawrence but they are not what they were. Lawrence lost his legs a year ago, macdonald cannot even get near the starting line for a poor Coventry side and although Akinfenwa still prospers he would only be wanted as a pairing with macdonald. It begs the question why don't Coventry sign Akinfenwa, he and Cody would set league 1 alight. The more interesting angle is what a fantastic squad Allen inherited from Hessy and what a load of rubbish Hessy inherited from his predecessor. If Allen had taken over from Dimson he would have been gone by Christmas as it is he sits top of the league with the best budget in years and money in the bank for emergencies. 5 years ago Ronnie Jepson kept Gills in league 1 for 2 years running and did not have a cent to hire a loan goalie. It just shows managerial records are made by good luck and good timing as much as ability.
