Heskey a no-go?

nah I'm not too disappointed really. As much as I love the guy you'd hope we can do better with the money we've got. I'd rather have the Yak and Kamara, which are both distinct possibilities.
Who do people prefer Heskey or Yakubu. Forget what Heskey has done for us in the past with helping us on and off the pitch.
Who would you rather Heskey or Yakubu. Yak will score goals while Heskey wont so because of that reason i would take the Yak. You need goalscorers in this league not people who are going to play well every week with reward. Imagine a front line of Vassell, Heskey and Howard. They would probaly score 10 goals a season between them

I would have liked Heskey here, not for the sentimental angle of him coming home but because he still has a lot to offer. In order for him to be effective though he'd have to play alongside the Yak. Imagine how much that will benefit Yakubu's goal tally?!
Would be two great signings but if it's not happening then the main thing is getting the Yak signed up. Next week by all accounts it should be done.

I can't really see how Heskey and the Yak would work. Heskey does put himself about yes, but it would be such an immobile strikeforce. The key to playing good, quick, passing football is movement and that is neither of their strong points.
Plus it would mean changing to a 4-4-2 and that wouldn't suit our midfield at all. The need for a winger I can't stress enough at the moment.

Personally I think “the_fosse” has got this one right.
The problem with Heskey is that he needs good players around him. He’s a team player, which is why so many managers picked him for England, and helps create space for others. He would need a goal scorer to play with him.
I think that it might work with Yakubu in our current formation. Heskey would be one of the wide players of a front three. Not a winger!!!! (it annoys me when people think 4-3-3 is about wingers), but as a wide striker.

The thing is Joby we've seen Strikers being played out wide this season and it just hasn't worked. Vassell a perfect example. I see Swansea as the benchmark - they don't play a strict 4-3-3 but when they are attacking it essentially becomes that. They have been successful this season because Sinclair and Dyer have been ripping defenders left right at centre, scoring goals and creating chances. It may be a front 3 but 2 of them do not play as strikers at all. I think to be promoted we need at least one quick winger.
Heskey is not going to beat a man these days for pace or skill. We all remember him against Algeria!

Heskey will always be a legend, but as we are playing passing football rather than flick on football, i dont think he would cope, and would just be a replacement for Howard, who doesn't play that often anyway.
