To be honest I do think one day he will be in charge of either Barca or Real but I don't think he will get it on merit of his managerial accomplishments, the fans of both clubs are still obsessed with him and the Real fan poll said it all when something like 60% wanted him to be the next coach.

I just don't see that happening soon though because both clubs have managers already in place, can't tell if Barca will keep Martino but I haven't heard they are looking to cut him loose.

I personally believe he was fantastic here and loved every minute he was here. But, I dont know whether he is actually good enough for a so called big club. May I add I am only guessing here and with better class players he may well be able to get the best out of them. IMO us, WBA and the Southamptons of the world are his level.

He couldn't run this club properly as the players will testify so what chance has he got with a big club with ego's equal to his..<laugh>

He's looking for the next challenge. Bigger means bigger than us. Why repeat the cycle of experience he has already had with RCD Mallorca, Getafe, Russians (?) and us. He won a cup with us and proceeded to the quarter finals of the Europa League, with a small squad and a spate of injuries. He knows what he can accomplish. If he doesn't need the money, why not look for the next challenge. It's not arrogant. He's qualified and demonstrated capable.

If Michael Laudrup says he does not wish to appear arrogant then you can believe it. He is that sort of man, unlike some..... He has no need of a job, ANY job whether it be at a big club or a smaller one. Basically what I think he is saying, is that if he stays in the game as a manager, he would want to be with a bigger club - presumably one that has or could afford to buy the quality of player that he has worked with all his playing life. If he can't get such a position then fine. It's no skin off his nose because he is financially independent and never needs to work another day in his life.

So answer this: is Bony arrogant because of his professed wish to play for a bigger club to get CL football? Was Joe Allen arrogant to ditch his hometown club to play for a bigger club? What about Brendan Rodgers? There are any number of managers and players in the Premier League who have similar aspirations or preferences. Are they all arrogant as well? And what about all those players who have release clauses in their contracts should their team be relegated because they do not wish to play for a team at a lower level?

For me, Laudrup was simply being honest by saying that he would like a job with a bigger club where perhaps he feels that he would have far less financial constraints on his ability to recruit the quality of player he would like to work with. Nothing wrong in that. He's just being honest and admitting it which, unfortunately, gives the usual suspects another club to beat him with.

It might well be that he will never get the level of job that he would like. I don't think he's bothered. He's achieved all he wanted from the game as a player and is now recognised as one of the all time greats. That is a whole lot more than the vast majority of his detractors could do even in their dreams.

All I can see is Southampton fans getting upset, which is odd seeing as Laudrup never even mentioned Southampton in the interview.

Is it a surprise that Laudrup want's to manage a big club long-term rather than go from small(er) club to club?

Are you capable of debating with words instead of having to resort to using those stupid smileys to make a point?

Agree Dragon. A very disrespectful thing to say about Southampton.

You can say it gives the usual suspects another club to beat him with but since when have United, Arsenal and Chelsea fans been the usual suspects in this instance? I won't buy the idea that suddenly Laudrup haters made fake accounts on Sky Sports' website to have another dig at him, even more so when those comments are heavily agreeable by those clicking the ticks.

    1) he never mentioned Southampton, for all we know he never spoke to them.
    2) I see lots of comments stating that he has a massive ego - He said I don't wish to sound arrogant....arrogant people usually just blow their trumpet with little self awareness.
    3) I see lots of comments saying "what has he achieved to say he'd only take a big club?" -

As a player he was one of the best 2/3 players in the world for virtually all of his career.

As a manager he didn't get parachuted into a big club. He's only managed small clubs outside Denmark. What has he achieved? Let's see....

    Danish League runners up.
    Danish title.
    Danish double.
    Copa Del Ray runner up.
    QFs of the UEFA cup.
Saved Mallorca from the drop when they were in the middle of financial oblivion (Equivalent of keeping Portsmouth up here).
    English League Cup winner.
Guided Swansea to the latter stages of the Europa.
Picked up many famous scalps in his 18 months or so with us.
Left us a squad that has vastly increased in value.

Would any of his detractors like to point me in the direction of a modern day manager, who has never managed a big club, who has achieved more with his limited resources?

    4) Perhaps he learned last summer the limitations of a smaller club, perhaps this doesn't tally with his ambitions? Perhaps he feels he has earned the chance of managing a bigger club? Perhaps he isn't too keen on repeating himself over and over again.

The only thing that has damaged his reputation in English Premier League fans' eyes is the spiteful way we dismissed him when we dismissed him.

Why should they get upset ,are they as big as the likes of the top historically the top 4 of this country or any other country ,I don't consider them to be "big" .it all depends on what context you care to read his comments and for some on here just more ammunition (if ever their small minds ever needed any ) to pour scorn on Laudrup . god forbid he was ever caught with his hands in the till .Care to comment Dai without resorting to abuse

I am pretty sure the sackings from the previous clubs less than two years into the jobs might have tarnished his managerial reputation.

    That all you got?

He achieved at Mallorca and the chairman sacked his right hand man. He resigned.

It's all I need. But yes, that resignation... due to a breakdown in good relations with the clubs board. Sound familiar?

It is not "all you need".
He has a record of achievement in management.
I repeat can you point me to someone who has achieved more at several small clubs?

Name me a manager who's been managing for 12 years who hasn't been sacked or resigned?

You are right, it is not all I need... It is all the other boardrooms need to know he won't last the two year contract they would have to offer him. <laugh>
